Hey guys just wondering if someone may be willing to give me some feedback on my personal statement. I had a really intense E.D. volunteering experience last week (young teenage kid committed suicide). I wrote about the experience (had to get it out and off my chest) and am thinking of making it the main part of my personal statement, definitely a different direction than what I was originally intending (rural childhood, need for rural doctors etc.). Any takers ? Could definitely use some anonymous criticism. Keep in mind it is the rough draft (literally just wrote it). PM me if your down. Thanks

Quick advice from somebody who has worked for 6 years in mental health.... unless you are going into psychiatry and are going to dedicate your career to working with people with suicidal ideation/attempts...and you really understand the struggles that are found within people with SPMI, I would think there would be a better topic for you to write about.

Gladly read yours if you read mine 🙂

Send me a PM.

I also changed my personal statement... about a thousand times. So you're not alone

Understandable, definitely plenty "good" experiences I can write about, but not many as intense as a teenage kid who was an only child, who shot himself in the head and was life flighted into the hospital I was volunteering at. It was the first major trauma code I had seen at a large regional trauma center. The personal statement doesn't touch the mental health aspects, I am in fact not very interested in psychology, it is more about the reality of medicine and how I view it changed with the experience.

Thanks for the offer adam83 I will shoot you a PM, after I finish cleaning it up a bit!
