Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a feedback on my list of medical schools and my chances based on stats.

MCAT: taken May 28, 2009
Physical Sciences: 11
Verbal Reasoning: 13
Biological Sciences: 10
Writing: S

overall GPA: 3.82
science GPA: 3.82
Undergrad institution: Macalester College, Biology major

EC: Shadowing, ochem research, NICU volunteering, Center for Care Innovation and Research internship and Minnesota Department of Health internship (current). All of them are one summer each. Extensive activity and leadership positions at church and student cultural org. Fluent in two languages.

5 letters of recommendations, one from a physician I shadowed. Primary application will be submitted in the first week of July.

Schools I will be applying to:

Albany
Dartmouth
Boston
University of Minnesota
University of Hawaii
Jefferson
Eastern Virginia Medical School
Loma Linda
Rosalind Franklin
Vanderbilt (a reach for sure)

Unfortunately, here's the kicker:
I am an international student, non-Canadian and non-green card holder (no permanent residence). :boom: the bomb explodes and all hope melts away (at least that's what people imply *sigh*).🙁

what do people think?

👍 Thanks for sharing that. 30 schools! The primaries alone must've cost you a fortune. I don't think I could write 30 secondary essays either.

best of luck to both of us. do u have a back up plan? I'm thinking MPH.

Don't know if I'd consider Baylor international friendly, although they do matriculate a couple per class.

Zoelithos--have you read Hawaii's policies regarding non-residents? Obviously, they get a lot of out of state applicants, so they have a very thorough policy on their website. I imagine you'd meet the cutoffs for a non-resident secondary, but the sheer numbers will work against you. Good luck!

You guys really shouldn't need back up plans, lol.

Hrmm..good point. I know that they have a screening procedure to see if you have "a connection" to Hawaii in any way; if I understand correctly, they first accept from those who have this connection, and then fill the rest with those who don't. I don't have any sort of connection. I'm from Korea, and I'm not sure if that qualifies as being from "the pacific rim." In any case, I think I'll still go ahead and apply and hope for the best.
