School list: Case Western, Brown, Rochester-NY, Hofstra, UMich, UArizona-Phoenix, UPitt, Colorado, Dartmouth, UCinci, Tufts, Emory, UIowa, Ohio State, Wayne State, Western Stryker, UVM Larner, EVMS, Penn State, Albany MC, MCW, Quinnipiac, VCU, Hackensack, Oakland, Wake Forest, and MSUCHM

Planning on applying DO to DMU, MSUCOM, and PCOM

Could you please help advise how this school list is looking? Not sure if I should remove some of the Michigan schools who are not as OOS friendly despite MI connections. Thoughts on DO? Would love to go to UIowa Carver, but am trying to apply broadly. Thank you in advance! :)

Thank you for the suggestions! If I were looking to avoid big cities like NYC, Boston, etc., do you have any other alternatives?

Have you talked with them about your Michigan status? What's your mission fit with them?
Haven't reached to them about MI status yet, will reach out to see!

Mission fit to MSUCHM with rural medicine. Very interested in rural med which is very strong at MSU. Also strong associations with the hospitals and research centers in neuro/cancer.
Oakland less so, but I have lots of local community service in Michigan, and they have some neat community service local programs in the Detroit area.

My worry is that MSU is very $$$ for OOS. Will contact them to see if any lenience :)

It would be best to apply there and decide after you get acceptances as many of the OOS friendly schools are in large cities in the Northeast.

You could apply to the Tufts Maine program if you have interest in rural medicine. CMU has high OOS tuition but is rural-focused as well. You could also put back MCW and add in Wisconsin Madison. IU has considered OOS applicants in the surrounding states and has usually not charged a secondary fee until they offer an interview.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I had not heard yet of the Maine track for Tufts, but seems like a great program for rural med.

Will add MCW, Wisconsin Madison, and IU! Do you think my service would be decent for Rosalind Franklin, Temple, Jefferson, etc.? I think how I explained my clinical work matches with cura personalis for Jesuit schools, so will add Creighton, SLU for sure. Thank you very much for your help narrowing schools.

Yes, it should be fine for Jefferson and Rosalind Franklin. I don't see it hurting your chances at Temple.
