Hi All,

I'm taking a biostats course, and we were told to get the STATA gradpack (179 bucks). The class is part of an MPH program so I can understand why the permanent license product is on the course list, but I'm just taking the class to learn, and wonder if it may be better for me to get one of the limited permission grad packs (something like $50 for a 6 month license). Anyone have any experience re: the pros and cons of limited license products like this? Is there any reason why I'd want to spend the $ on the permanent license when I already have SPSS? I don't see myself pursuing an MPH within the next 5 years, not before I'm done with my program, internship, postdoc...

Many thanks!

You could talk to the prof and see if they're ok with you just using SPSS. I mean stats are stats regardless of the package. That said, I'll put a plug in for Stata. It's really a fantastic program, and you can do a lot with it. I would reccomend Stata as a base program for anyone. Data manipulation is easy and price wise it's quite good for what you get. As for the 6 month lic. I've never been a big fan. I've your going to learn to use something, you may as well have a full copy.
