So i just needed someplace to vent... I've been lucky enough to be accepted to COMP-NW this cycle, but i made the dumb mistake of not applying to enough MD schools. For those of you who will be applicants i strongly urge you to make sure you have a GREAT school list. DO NOT be like me and wing it. I wish i applied to my state MD schools, maybe i would have gotten lucky. Average stats... 3.7 cgpa 3.6ish sgpa with a 500 mcat. Maybe i would have maybe not, but it just sucks not knowing now. Anyone else in same boat?

What is the state school in question? 3.6/25 is tough for MD, do you have this regret because you got multiple MD interviews but no luck with accepts?

The state is IL, so ideally if i could add more schools - siu, loyola, uic, rosy frank, maybe rush

Made mistake of applying oos schools because they had lower "averages" potential applicants... Do your research.

What do you mean? Like you didn't realize some places you applied do not consider out-of-staters?
Yeah i get The whole low stats stuff but maybe a bone in the wind would have gotten some luck haha. But i mean that i should have applied to schools who prefer IS applicants Such as siu... Rather than say univ of south carolina where they require strong ties to carolina. And no I'm not from rural IL

I don't know how to phrase this without being a jerk but I really think you actually did a good thing and saved yourself several hundred dollars by not applying to the schools you mention above. Odds of interest are just astronomically low. I would not look back with regret whatsoever it was very appropriate for you to apply almost entirely DO.

I understand that you are frustrated, but you are going to be a doctor so you should be super excited! 🙂

With that being said, I will agree with you that having a great school list is very important. SDN helped me make a great school list haha.

Dont worry i know i have low stats and it was probably unlikely but its just the feeling of not knowing you know? Like a couple hundred bucks is not a big deal if i knew for certain (in my situation) obviously everyone is different.

True true! Thanks! Are you a current applicant?

I think a good school list is often overlooked by applicants because they are focusing on getting good stats and ECs, but a good list is absolutely critical. I've seen so many threads where someone is asking why they didn't get accepted even though they had a solid app and the answer a lot of the time is inappropriate school lists.

You really think you could have gotten an II, much less an acceptance, at an MD school with 500 MCAT score????

Adcoms are allergic to special snowflakes.

Get over yourself and be content with the idea that you're going to be a doctor. And try not make life too difficult for the OMT faculty. You knew what you were getting into. This is YOUR profession now.

Veryyyy unlikely but who knows... Maybe I'm the "exception"

Do you regret not continuing a relationship with every single date you've ever been on? I mean, they might have "been the one", if only you had given it more time or effort. There are/will be multiple things that you have done or not done in your life that could have changed the outcome and cause you to have regrets. Thinking if only I had done this...I would have that. You can't live your life that way.

Move on, be happy....you're going to be a Doctor. That is an amazing accomplishment!

Maybe you should take some Allegra before interview day XD "Special snowflakes" are everywhere?

OP, what else do you have going on in your app? ORM, URM? Research? Upward trend?

Asian (paki), research for 2.5 years, upward trend, 1 publication (first author), second publication under review. Poster presentation hundreds of clinical hours.

I am assuming you applied to all of your state schools?

No. I applied to some, should have applied to more... Hence the post haha. But yeah cant do anything now. I was just venting.
That sucks. Applicants with your stats usually get into their state schools at roughly 16% . It is an upward battle, but there obviously are people in that 16%.

They must also be allergic to 99% of other snowflakes (average snowflakes, research heavy snowflakes, great gpa but average MCAT snowflakes, great MCAT but average GPA snowflakes, Above average MCAT and GPA but average looks, sexy looks but average stats, etc).
