Hello everyone, I'm new to this fourm, I wish I would have know about it earlier. I'm feeling down and discouraged because I feel like I have no chance of getting into pharmacy school and pharmacy is my life it is all that I know. I have seven years of experience, 5 years retail and 2 years hospital. I do a little bit of research experience with a pharmacy school professor also. I am planning on applying for fall 2010 but I graduate with a BA in Biology and a BA in chemistry in May 2010. As of right now I have an over all GPA of 2.89 which in my opinion is poor compared to graduating highschool with a 4.2 GPA. I take the PCAT at the end of this month. I got C's and B's in my pharm preqs it took me a while to adjust how to study in college because highschool was such a breeze for me and it was a college prepatory school too. Last semester I was able to master studying effectively and got a 3.3 but I feel like its too late if I get strait A's this semester and in spring 2010 I will be at a 2.95. DO I HAVE ANY CHANGE OF GETTING ACCEPTED TO PHARMACY SCHOOL

Hello and welcome (to me too!). You seem to have quite a bit of pharmacy experience. So that's going to be a huge positive on your apps. Just keep pushing forward and show that upward trend in your grades. Prove to the adcoms that you are ready to enter p-school.

Don't get down on yourself!

Ok, since you called for 100% honesty...

By no means is a 3.3 GPA mastering studying. With a 2.89 you need to be getting 4.0's consistently to make any decent amount of movement in your GPA and convince pharmacy schools you are capable of succeeding at their institution. Getting C's in pharm school pre-reqs is a major red flag to any institution--remember, 'C' means average, and when 2,000+ applicants are applying for 100 seats, average doesn't cut it. You're going to need a very good PCAT score to turn any heads. There are a lot of schools who won't even consider your app unless you are above a 3.0 GPA, sometimes they have science GPA minimums and pre-req GPA minimums as well--something you should look into.

Also, people on here will tell you over and over that people with your stats get into pharmacy school. This is true, there are always exceptions to the norm, but the reality of the situation is that in this day and age if you don't have at least a 3.0 GPA your odds of getting into pharmacy school are very, very low.

That depends. Are you only applying to California schools?

Three words: don't give up! Don't lose hope. Try your best and pray 😍

Are you attending an Ivy League school?

I ask because you stated that you had a 4.2 from a college prep school and "high school was a breeze." Which makes me think that you got into a competitive school and a 3.3 is decent.

Yes/No?

Do you have a chance? Sure. It's not great but you still have a chance. The thing is you've never gotten a 4.0 before. Do you think you can do it for 2 semesters in a row? If you can, and also get a high PCAT score, those combined with your experience should give you a shot.

Actually rereading your post, are you applying this year? If you are, you shouldn't. Schools will get your application before they can see your progression and I'm not sure they would keep you in the running long enough before they got your fall or spring transcripts.

I'd also just like to remind some of us who forget what the real goal is. Sometimes it seems as "as long as I get into pharmacy school everything will be A OK!" We forget that pharmacy school is 20-25 credit hours a semester with information coming in at speeds we never even imagined. If you're having a hard time managing your work as an undergrad, despite if it's ivy league or CC, you're going to have to completely change the way you study and handle material.

sorry I should have used a different term other than "master" basicly I have improved I was diagnosed with adult ADD..I'm not a fan of taking meds myself so I just really work hard and changed my methods of studying and organizing. I did have a 3.8 my freshmen year of college but that means nothing now most of the prereqs they want I took sophomore year and junior year. I really thank you ALL for your honesty it is really helping me out a great deal. It it true that my chances are even slimmer if I'm applying to out of state schools, I go to school in Missouri? and then I thought about getting my masters but a lot of thoes programs require a minimum undergad gpa of 3.0 thats another part of the reason I feel screwed I thought about a Masters in Health Care Administration if pharmacy school didn't work out. Do I have a better shot at getting my masters?

You have good Pharmacy experience. That is going to look good on an application. The professor you did research with would probably give you a good letter of rec, and you need to have a really good personal statement. It isn't all gpa. If you really want this, it will show. Good luck and don't get yourself down. There's always a chance, you just have to make what you have work for you.

im not an expert but i think you have a chance 🙂 there are ppl who get in with gps below 3.0 and you have years of experience related to pharmacy. just make sure you do well for ur last two semesters and show an increasing trend in ur gpa. good luck!!
