last year was a terrible year for me, both with school and some really horrible circumstances at home. i was really hoping this year would take a turn for the better, but it doesnt seem to be doing so. i think taking 3 hardcore sciences at the same time plus labs and humanities wasnt such a great idea. my gpa isnt going to be horrible, i'll get As and Bs, but i worry so much about medical school, it just doesnt seem like what im doing will be good enough. becoming a doctor is my ultimate dream, but as i move forward in school, my dream seems to be moving further away rather than closer as it should. anyway, just feeling really bummed right now.

Been where you have been and beyone. Keep your ahead up, things get better.

NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF YOUR GOAL.

Try not to worry so much. If you're getting a good mix of A's and B's, you'll be fine. I spent way too much of my undergrad years worrying about not getting into med school, and whether I'd ever get the chance to realize my life's dream of becoming a doctor, when in reality I was a decent candidate who would get in somewhere and didn't have a lot to worry about. I regret it now. Of course, that's easy to say in hindsight.... Anyway, if your GPA is respectable and you do decently on your MCAT you should be able to realistically get in somewhere. It may not be a top 10 school, but if your goal is to be a doctor it doesn't really matter. I wish now that I'd enjoyed my undergrad years more and worried less since in reality I didn't have much to worry about (I was convinced at the time that I wouldn't get into med school because my GPA was too low, about a 3.4....I did get in, to a top 30 school at that). Try to enjoy college while you still have the chance. As long as your grades are decent and you do reasonably well on your MCAT, you should get in somewhere.

Personally I keep the big picture in the back of my mind but try not to dwell on how far away or impossible it seems. Stay focused and live for the day and the small goals... making it to the weekend or the end of the semester. It is good to keep it all in perspective, a B here and there will not kill you. Make sure you are working out or playing a sport, it helps with the stress. Good luck.

I had some really stressful semesters while at school and I withdrew twice. Furthermore, I partied too much freshman year and didn't do as well as I would have liked. Then I took the MCAT and got a 27 (I may have gotten in with my stats but it would have been close...)

So, I took time off after college to get my s**t together. I worked in a lab, took a couple classes, retook the MCAT...

Now I'm applying and although my GPA is lower than the average at every school I've applied to, I'm into 4 schools already.

DOnt be too hard on yourself, and take time off if you need it.

thanks everyone...

i know i need to relax, about 10 minutes before my organic test last night i started freaking out, even got light headed for a bit. sat down for the test and i could feel reactions i had once memorized zip out of my brain. It was then that i realized worrying was actually interfering with my schoolwork.

calm down; you seem like you'll be fine. now instead of worrying so much, get out there and explore this fantasic field; shadow a doctor, volunteer in the ER, get some experience and you'll start living your dream and get great incite to this wonderful profession.

and sorry about the terrible year you had personally; hope things improve for you in that way.
