I know a lot of people come to this thread to ask what their chances are for medical school if they apply to a bunch of schools. I want to know what people on this thread think my chances are of specifically getting into Carver College of Medicine, as this is my absolute number one choice. I am an ORM IS reapplicant, and I actually have an interview there a week from now. Unfortunately, last year they interviewed about 90% of IS applicants, so that really doesn't clear anything up for me as to whether they will think I'm any good. I know my stats below are kind of bare. I didn't decide to do premed until very late on and I had horrible social anxiety in college, so I just didn't do much in terms of extracurriculars. And what I did do involved a BDSM club, which isn't really appropriate for an application haha. I've been doing all I can within the past year to remedy this. So here are the stats:
-511 MCAT 125/127/128/131 (I am awful at physics), 4.0 GPA, member of Phi Beta Kappa (not sure how much weight this carries anymore, just know some think it's important, and some don't)
-200 hours clinical volunteering, will be around 450-500 by next summer
-Volunteer mentor at a local hospital (I train new volunteers for the unit I volunteer in)
-35 hours as a research assistant (I know this isn't a lot, I'm just not that interested in research)
-72 hours shadowing (more on the way!)
-Active guild member at a local hospital
-Recipient of Red Cross Lifesaver Award
-Tutor for two different companies, 2 hours/week at one, 5 hours/week at the other
-Week-long medical mission trip to Honduras
-Recently started training to work at the local suicide hotline
Let me know what you think. At this point, I feel like I need to pull a stellar interview or my app is completely dead in the water 🙁
