I'm feeling so discouraged with this route lately. I was originally premed at my undergrad did pretty poorly in the few classes I took . I've recently graduated, and began a post bacc program. I just finished two semesters of orgo lab and orgo I lecture in these last 5 weeks (Summer session). Got a freaking C in lab, and probably a B in lecture..maybe a B+ (Waiting on grades). I'm feeling so discouraged like I am spending so so much money in my program, busting my butt, and my grades stink. I only have a couple of A's/A-'s in my science GPA:. have about 22-25 credits to go and I feel like I should give up because my other poor grades cannot be counteracted. I would retake some, but I want to be ready to apply next cycle. Graduated from a Top 15 school with around a 3.5.

Help/suggestions 🙁 :/

If you have A's in the classes you say you do, and have a 3.5, your GRADES won't keep you out of a DO school.

Is the post-bacc at the same place? A 3.5 is not the end of the world, especially with 20-25 credits left. I'd study up for the MCAT and see what you get on the AAMC official scored practice exam before thinking about giving up.

Knowing your state of residency and ECs would also help.

No my post-bacc is different. ECs pretty good/well-rounded - two medical mission trips, a bunch of societies and clubs in college, variety of shadow experience. I am just lacking in research but was planning on doing that next summer and maybe spring. My residency is Florida, which I am hoping will work in my favor since they have so many public medical schools. I just see so many of my friends with way higher GPAs than me not get in anywhere other than Caribbean and its been giving me anxiety the past few weeks

I think being a B+/A- student at Vandy actually predicts doing pretty well on the MCAT, you might surprise yourself. Sounds like you're fairly on top of ECs, and Florida is a good state to be from. I suspect you'll be in a fine position if you take the MCAT seriously, doubly so if you do end up applying URM.

If you do well on your MCAT, then I would suspect you might have a good chance to land some interviews with a few MD schools, but this is under the assumption that your academic trend isn't a spiral downward. Also, don't discount aapplying for DO schools. When you get out of residency you won't be known for the type of medical degree you obtained or from where (unless your an ignorant doctor who also went to an Ivy League school and like for everyone to know about it..), but rather you will be known for the specialty you work in and the type of care your patients receive. Do the best you can't, don't get discouraged, you still have a VERY real shot at becoming a doctor either way. MD or DO..you have a good shot.
