I wanted to get into a pharm school in my state but unfortunately i couldnt get into any schools in my state but i got into every school i applied to out of state 🙁. I live in PA and i cant imagine living by myself out of state. I won't be able to survive. Pharmacy school is already stressful and i'll be even more stressed and home sick. Now I am literally have suicidal thoughts about killing myself because i wont be able to handle that kind of change/stress.

Any thoughts/advice?

Don't go and apply in state next year.

If you have suicidal ideations, don't go. Or get therapy. Maybe that'll help you be able to go to other places.

how far is your nearest accepted state? i dont see why u cant visit home now and then. your family would be proud.

Please contact the suicide helpline in your state.

Wait a year and apply again. Contact the school of your choice and ask about potential areas of improvement for your application.

Things have a way of working out. Please take care of yourself first.

I agree.

Suicide is absolutely no joke, and I hope that the OP isn't serious. If so, he/she should seek help immediately and sort pharmacy school out later. There must be underlying issues if this makes you have suicidal ideation.

If you're suicidal get some help. Also if you're not emotionally stable enough to go to school out of state perhaps healthcare isn't for you. My pharmacists respond to codes. They see patients die. They see patients chest get opened up. Granted not all pharmacists do this but emotional and psychological stability and strength are important in surviving this profession or you will join those posters who feel the need to leave the profession due to a mental breakdown.

If you can't handle traveling to a different state within the same country then you probably have no business in healthcare which will subject you to stresses that far exceed a simple geographic location and should seek professional help and a different career path.

I had a mild case of anxiety/depression for about a year a few years back and i can tell it is no joke. I was able to beat it with the help of my family and friends and i would not take a xanax to save my life (im of the belief that medication should be the last line of defense when it come to anxiety issues) seeing how many people's life depends on controlled substances. I cant imagine having a severe case with no support. Take care of your health first...it is very important that you feel comfortable whatever you doing. Good Luck and don't listen to the people here, some of the most brilliant minds in the world had depression/anxiety issues. Keep you head high and know you are not alone.

SDN takes such statements seriously and we would like to remind the OP and all posters that SDN should not serve as a place to obtain counseling or other advice regarding significant psychological issues. Anyone who is contemplating harming themselves should immediately seek professional counseling advice, not rely on SDN or other non-professional resources.

Members who have serious concerns about their career and would like to post details more anonymously may do so in the Confidential Consult forum.

At this time, given the nature of the thread and the concerns expressed, the moderation staff of SDN will close this thread.
