The night before the SF Match results were to be released I BARELY slept. I think I fell asleep around 4:30am. Woke up 6am. Started checking my email and SDN frantically for any updates. The ophtho forum on SDN had over 75 people viewing it at one time! (normally it's like 2-3 people at any one time). All sorts of unconfirmed reports were being posted about "so and so's brother found out he matched already at X med school, etc."
My anxiety was off the roof! I had worked so hard to get to this point. Could it all go to waste? Anyways, I had my cell phone next to me just in case I got a phone call instead of an email from the PD.
After HOURS of waiting and texting my gf, family, and friends that results hadn't been released yet my cell phone rang at precisely 11am! That was over 5 hours of waiting (actually more like 4 years). I got the call from my PD informing me that I had matched! The feeling I felt at that moment was only paralled by my acceptance to med school (took me almost 5 years to get into med school). Honestly, NOTHING else compares.
I believe there are certain moments in life that one will never forget. For me it was the day I got my ONE AND ONLY med school acceptance (off the waitlist, thank you very much), the day I matched ophtho, the day I get married and the birth of my first child.
