Feline Advantage?

I have two cats who are due for Advantage this week, but I just went through my supply and only have one tube of the over 9 lbs kind. However, I do have a whole package left over of the under 9 lbs from when they were kittens.

My question is: can I use a tube for cats under 9 lbs on my 11 lb kitties? The dosage is the same but the under 9 lbs tube is only .4 mLs, while the over 9 lbs tube is .8 mLs. However, the package explicitly says not to use the under 9 lbs kind on a cat over 9 lbs.

hmmm... I would check the chemical composition and concentrations of the two and make sure they are the same... I know it is for Frontline and you can do that with Frontline, Im not familiar with Advantage though...

They are: the under 9 lbs says its active ingredient is imidacloprid: 1-[(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl) methyl]-N-nitro-2-imidazolidinimine. Its concentration is 9.1% by weight, and inert ingredients are 90.9% by weight.

the over 9 lbs package says imidacloprid: 1-[(6-chloro-3-pyridinyl) methyl]-N-nitro-2-imidazolidinimine, and it's 9.1% by weight, 90.9% other ingredients.

Hi there:
The only reason why they say not to use the under 9lbs on cats over 9lbs is because the dosgage isn't enough for the over 9lbs. All you need to do is use 2 tubes of the under 9lbs to equal one tube of the over 9lbs. Hope this helps

Thanks so much! I figured with one being .4 mL and the other being .8 mL that I could double up on the .4 mL one, but I wasn't sure and I didn't want to take a chance. You've saved me from a lot of worry. I appreciate your input. My neighbor's dog comes and sits in front of my screen door a lot while my kitties are looking out, and he has fleas a lot and I'm a bit behind on my Advantage schedule (put it off for the hurricane). I was worried my girls would be itching and scratching! Thanks so much!

Advantage is very cool in that it is exactly the same product, just packaged in different doses for different sized animals. So you can use two kitten doses on an adult cat and you're good to go.

To save money, you can also purchase the large dog size and break it into appropriate doses with a tuberculin syringe. This saves me a ton of $$$.
