I'm going to do a talk on this topic in a few months and I'm just starting to put together of list of the things that are newer/upcoming and cool in a gadget fun kind of way. I've got a few classes/ideas and am looking for more suggestions. What are you using at your hospital/what have you seen out there in the big bad world that looks interesting? Thanks!
So far, am able to list...
oxgenation monitors: Licox invasive, noninvasive NIRS/cerebral saturation (used in our PICU- I think they use INVOS)

noninvasive cardiac output/fluid status: vigileo (used in our SICU), lidco, picco (used in our burn unit), pleth variability index

other: rainbox co-oximetery/total hemoglobin, volumetric capnography

Of those who have used these, any specific brands that have caught your attention?

Starting to use the Vigileo a lot more. I like it... but I don't completely trust it, for some reason. Just the fact that it's modeling is based on nomograms bothers me a little. Eh... close enough for government work, I suppose.

I keep seeing ads for those things in the journals and rags, but we've never had any of them available. Heck, we only have 2 or 3 BIS monitors and those have been around for years, so I don't hold out any hope...

For awhile, we had a percutaneous pCO2 monitor, which was pretty cool.
