Fellowship ERAS application and not being able to add LORs until uploaded

Hey guys,

This is my second time applying for a fellowship (I applied last year) and so I am familiar with the process. It used to be that you could finalize the LORs that you will eventually get uploaded (once the letter writers have uploaded or send them in) and when assigning the LORs to the programs that you are applying to you just assign all of the letters regardless of whether they are uploaded at that time or not. This was how I was able to submit my application in the beginning of july given that my LORs didn't get uploaded until late july. This year, I have finalized 4 LORs (only one of which have been upload so far) and now when I go to assign the letters to each program it states that you cannot assign them until they are upload and you cannot change the letters you have assigned after you have submitted your application. So basically, this means that we have to have all of our letters in and uploaded by the time we are submitting our applications? Who the hell has this done? It's July, many of the attending and especially PDs or assistant PDs who make up a lot of our LOR writers are extremely busy and cannot possibly get everyone's LOR out in time. This seems ridiculous and I would hate for my application to be delayed until all of my LORs are in because of this. I can't be the only one that is faced with this. I tried to call ERAS documents department (EFDO) but no one answers the phone or emails.

At least how it worked last year is that you couldn't *deselect* letters after they were submitted, but you could always *select* them. I.e. if you submit app with 2 letters, you can always add a third (but you can't take one of the two back).

Hmmm. I'm in a similar situation as I'm sure a lot of people are here. I have 2 letters uploaded and am still waiting for 2 more. I talked to ERAS and even called a few programs asking if it was ok to send the application even though a few letters were pending and they said that was fine. Just have to be sure to check every day when the letters do get uploaded and then send them.

i just called ERAS cause I was concerned of the same thing. They said that you can go ahead and apply with the letters that you have. The application is locked for the information that you have already sent however you can still send the remaining letters once they are uploaded. I am going to send my stuff tonight
