Hi all,

Hope everyones match went well. Just curious, and wanted to start a new thread, does anyone know what programs are considered good programs for either Ped Hem Onc or Peds Emerg Med? I am sure that the usual suspects will be there, aka the CHoBs, Hopkins' and CHOPs of the world, but any info on good programs in those two specialties elsewhere?

Thanks for any info you can give, and again, congrats to all (and if anybody is going to Mayo I will see you there next year).

The peds hem-onc programs at Texas Children's (Baylor) and St Jude (Memphis) are very highly regarded.

I would guess that Heme-Onc is also good at UT-Houston, due to the fact that they rotate through MD Anderson Cancer Center (it's #1...or so they keep telling me). And Duke is probably pretty good also, since they have the only bone marrow gene therapy program in the US.

Texas Children's pediatric hem-onc is king in Houston. MD Anderson is huge in the adult world.

I just went through the Peds EM match this past year. FYI, it was the most competetive peds fellowship match, with 40% of applicants not matching (Peds Cards was ~35%).

I interviewed at 9 programs, decided on by family needs as much or more than academic needs. The reputation schools are, as you mentioned, Boston Children's and CHOP. However, because the specialty is still relatively small, there are only a few fellowship programs of which most program directors and fellowship directors trained at the top-tier programs.

From my experience, other great programs are Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Denver, UAB, Louisville, and UM-Kansas City. Some programs that you might think were good, but that I was less impressed with or have an underground bad reputation are Ohio State, Wash U, and Vanderbilt.

Good luck in your search!!! 😎

For Peds Er there is CHOP, Boston, and Cinci. Then there is everyone else. Big cutoff. Whatever fellowship you are interested in, i would start making connections and doing research in that field as soon as you can. Its never to early.
