anyone know where I can find fellowship match list for the southern california IM programs like olive view ucla, usc, kaiser la? thanks.

usc's on their website, dunno about the other two

USC IM

I'm surprised so many of the usc residents go to usc again for fellowships.

why's that? i'd actually expect to see something like that for a bunch of reasons...they're known already by the faculty and have an edge over unknown applicants from elsewhere, it's probably easier to get into a fellowship there because programs often take their own (and this goes for residency too) because they know what they can expect from that person (and likewise, the resident knows what to expect from their fellowship program). Also, it's familiar and easier because you don't have to move to a new city, you already know the staff, faculty, other residents, etc. and your friends are there (at least the ones who aren't leaving to do a fellowship elsewhere). simply put, it's an easy and practical way to get a fellowship.

while i can only speak for my med school, every year when the match list comes out, many students always choose to stay there for residency, especially in IM. to be fair and put it into context, our school's IM program is popular and competitive (based on the content of posts in the interviews thread), but it's not one of the Boston or NYC schools, Hopkins, or UCSF.

Good way to diversify things for sure... 🙄 For academic purposes I'm not sure it's so great to go to med school, residency, and fellowship all at school 'X' irrespective of how well respected the program is. Now, if you're interested in private practice and just want to ride the name to land a hot job that's another story. In regards to USC, it's well known that a lot of their grads go private despite them boasting a strong academic reputation.

It will be interesting to know how many in each respective specialties applied and how many matched. Looking at old threads it seemed that there were 10? or so people who applied to cards but only 3 matched. USC gives us the number of people who matched at fellowships but not the # who applied. By default if only a few matched and most of them in their home program, I would be worried about fellowship placement.
