fellowship program--ACGME

For selective pathology fellowship (GU, GYN, GI, Surgical..), how do we know if the program is ACGME ACCREDIATED? I just checked NY State, only the following programs are on the list, and does not say which fellowship is ACGME ACCREDIATED. [FONT=arial, helvetica][SIZE=+1]New York[/SIZE].

As far as I know, surgical pathology & its subspecialties are not ACGME accredited. I think only the boarded fellowships are accredited. Does it matter to you if a program is accredited or not?

It depends on the institution. At some programs, at least some of the non-boarded fellowships are ACGME-accredited.

Go to ACGME and click on list of programs by subspecialty and click selective pathology. That's your list.

Don't expect to find these subspecialties in the ABP.

I am curious as to whether it is really important if the program is ACGME accredited, if there is no board to sit for- say for GI.

No it's not. More important is where you trained and with whom.
ACGME is more for the program to get paid by Medicare (if they can) and to comply with regulations, credentials, work hours, etc.
