Has anyone either done a fellowship or known someone who has? I know that I want a fellowship but have no idea when/how to start the process, as no one from my program has done one that anyone can remember.

I'm a PGY3 now. I'll do an away rotation this year & will obviously use this as a mini-interview time. I'm not sure when I should start letting the institution know I'm seriously interested, what I need to do to improve my chances, and what my program does in this process. Is it like med school, when all of my evals are sent? Or is it a synopsis written by our PD? Aside from research (which I'm trying to drum up), what do I need to do between now and my away rotation next spring?

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Fellowships are very uncompetitive.
We have are new SRS fellowship and found it very hard to get any US/Canadian PGY5 resident to apply, in the current environment.
If you send an email now, I bet most places will be drooling over you.
I doubt you'd need to do aways.

Thanks, Simul!
