I was looking through stats on Ferris State and I found that in 2008 they admitted 132 in-state students and only 9 out-of-state students. Does anyone know if they rank applicants higher if they are from MI, or was this simply due to most applicants having been from MI?

Ferris is unbiased they have to be legally, and they say so on their website, the only reason few people are accepted out of state is because few people know of Ferris out of state and those who do are in college and don't know what classes are considered okay to Ferris at their institution

Well, I think I'm taking ferris off my list of schools to apply to. They won't accept my general economics class for their macroeconomics/microeconomics requirement.😡 I don't see myself paying at least a thousand dollars to enroll in a school for the fall or spring just to take that one course, especially since ferris wasn't one of my top choices.

what are your top choices? Ferris is a good school but really thats all they have is pharmacy, and thats kind of outdated...

This. Ferris is unbiased when it comes to in-state and out-of-state, as well as things like whether your credits come from a University or CC. Like stated above, many don't apply from out-of-state because they don't know about it, because it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. It's location is a big turn-off to some. Especially when some CoPs have campuses in really prime locations, like mere blocks from the ocean.

I'll be attending Ferris this fall.

How do you know they wont accept it? Did you look at their transfer guide and didn't see it? Or did you email Tara Lee and ask her? I've found Tara *their Admissions specialist* to be incredibly kind and helpful in all my dealings with her.

Yeah, I emailed Tara about it. She did seem very nice, but apparently that is school policy. I even asked her if I could take the class the summer before admisson if I ended up going to Ferris, but she said that wouldn't work either. I'd have to take it this fall or coming spring, which is something I really don't want to do.

I'm from Indiana so my top choice is Purdue. My next top two schools are U of Minnesota and SUNY @ Buffalo (I'm not sure yet which one I'd prefer). I'm probably also applying to Midwestern CCP, Cincinnati, and maybe Belmont (not sure about that one).

I see. Both are great schools, I am thinking about Purdue myself, alas out-of-state fees is a turn off. Michigan doesn't have a lot of options for pharmacy, Ferris is 2-4, Wayne is 3-4 and U of m is considered 3-4 but most everyone has a bachelors so its more 4-4. So obviously to save time most people go to Ferris, but im really upset they don't have pharmacogenomics. oh well. What feild of pharmacy are you thinking of going into?

Purdue is a great school, but they are tough to get into, and as you said it is expensive for out of staters. I can definitely understand why you and alot of others are interested in Ferris, especially if you're from MI. Also, I didn't realize you had to have a bachelors for Michigan, will be interesting to see if other schools start to require that in the near future.

I don't know for sure what field of pharmacy I want to practice in, I figure I'll be in a better place to make that decision after doing rotations. If I get into Purdue I might check out their nuclear pharmacy program. You looking to practice in a specific field?

I don't really know I always loved hospital pharmacy, so maybe clinical care or a floor pharmacist. However I've recently entertained the idea of being a physchopharmacist (pharmacist specializing in medicines of the head surprisingly more leaned toward Neurology), alas thats such a new field very few jobs are offered. I like pharmacy because it's a chemistry degree, and i've always loved and been good at chemistry. Purdue is well known for its nuclear program, but id say that it offers quite an in dept knowledge of pharmacy. Yes good old Michigan always shooting for the top  I think Buffalo is a better shot for you only because it covers a lot of bases, and Purdue is biased towards its students.

Sweet man, physchopharmacy sounds really cool if you're able to find a job. I have a feeling it might be similarly hard for me to find work (at least without relocating across the nation) if I go into nuclear.

Anyway, good luck with your school applications!
