What exactly do we need to know about fetal blood flow.

887. Which of the following vessels prevents the proper amount of blood flow to the fetal liver?
A. ductus arteriosus
B. ductus venosus
C. ductus ovale
D. hepatic vein
Answer: B

I really had no clue what any of these things were when I came upon this structure, and couldn't recall ever learning any of those structures...

I wouldn't worry about the specifics of fetal blood flow. You have plenty of other concepts that are much more likely to show up. Besides, if it does show up, it is likely to be part of a passage (which would have the info you need) and not free standing.

Generally though, the purpose of fetal structures in the circulatory system are to divert blood flow from the fetal lungs and liver (which are non functional) to the placenta, which is the one stop shop for the fetus to acquire nutrients and excrete waste. I think just having the general idea of why the fetus has unique blood flow structures should get you through any passages/question that may show up.
