I was wondering, who performs fetal surgery? What is the role of the ob/gyn in these surgeries? Does this fall under MFM? What kind of surgeries are done? I know this is not a big field right now, but I keep hearing people say this is going to be big in the future. Is it going to be new speciality? How would one get into it?

it's peds surgery, not obgyn. mfm probably has input as far as preop workup, etc.

Are you kidding, 😱

There are 2 surgeries going on. One on the mother, done by an MFM, and one on the fetus done by pedi surg.
I think the 3 places are in Tennessee, California, and Pennsylvania.

It is being experimented with several diseases like spina bifida, CCAM, biliary atresia and others.

The Vandy residents said they may do 1 surgery a month. They get to observe in the OR.

Fetal surgery is now also being performed in Cincinnati as a collaborative of Good Samaritan Hospital, University of Cincinnati, and Children's Hospital. Just last week a patient of ours had a surgery to try to correct a CCAM lesion in the fetus. OBs do scrub in on the surgery.
