1. If branching increases for alkane, mp and bp decreases. However, in alkene, mp increases due to symmetry. This is what Kap BB says but destroyer says that branching increases mp. Which one's right??
2. If you have 1,3 diene, temperature regulates whether it's going to be 1,2 addition or 1,4 addition, right???

Just needed to clarify these two.

When you are dealing with an alkene, the more substituted, the more stable it is and the melting and boiling points increase. in an alkane, branching decreases both mp and bp, except when there is symmetry. The symmetry makes up for the lack of surface area b/c it can more easily fit into a crystal and causes an increase in the melting point, but not bp.
