1. Currently I am reconsidering careers. I did have a PH D in chemistry in mind but now I feel like I want to go into pharmacy school. However, I work at my school lab mon - fri 40 hours a week doing research. Is there any way I can convince a pharmacy to take me in for volunteer work ONLY on Saturdays and Sundays?

2. Also, do you think organic chem publications would be plus in helping me get in?

3. Is ANY pharmacy school in the U.S. good enough to go to? Or are there some accredited pharm schools that just suck and I should stay away from? My friend was telling me there was one pharm school in Savannah GA that is a 3 year school while UGA in Athens GA is 4 years.

All pharmacy schools are good, there are none to stay away from. South University is the school in georgia that offers a 3 year program. I think that your acceptance really depends on your grades , pcat scores, LORs, etc.

hi, since you'll be doing volunteer work, you can choose yr own time (at hospital). I think weekend is fine, i did volunteered on weekends and chose what time i showed up, how many hours, stuff like that..it's should be fine.

which one to stay away from?? i don't know..I think we ALL want to get in, not to stay from ..so just choose the schools you want to apply and you'll see...good luck

So...are you done with your BS in chemistry? You asked about going to school in the US. Did you do your undergrad degree in another country? If so, you need to get approval for your international credits at whatever school you are applying to.

Do you want to do just pharmacy practice or do you want to incorporate your research experience with pharmacy. If that is the case....the choice of schools goes down. There are some which are OUTSTANDING in pharmaceutical research - do your homework on that if thats what you're interested in.

You don't have to volunteer at a pharmacy. Most of us have never stepped foot behind the counter before entrance. I think your science background is helpful and will be an asset when taking the PCAT.

Campbell University in NC offers a joint PharmD/MSCR (Masters of science in clinical research) degree. I don't go to that school but I can tell you that they promote the heck out of the MSCR and would likely admit you into that first right away which would give you an "in" for the pharmacy school the following year if you didnt' get accepted anywhere else your first try.

Mercer's published information indicates that around 90% of their entering classes for the last couple of years have had pharmacy experience, so I think candidates w/o experience there are at somewhat of a disadvantage.

shaq786, this is very true. I believe that Mercer named me an alternate just because I did not have pharmacy experience (though I did some shadowing). I am a career changer so I do have other work experience, however. But I just got into Mercer today off the alternate list.

As for UGA and South, I got into both programs without any pharmacy experience.
