Hi all,

Quick question. If I apply IM but all my research is in a surgical subspecialty and I decide I don’t want to do that, would having a lot of publications in the surgical subspecialty and a good step score still help me land a competitive IM residency? Thank you

Having good step scores and good grades in medical school will help you, your 'research' is an after thought. ('Research' in quotes, because you're not doing much as a pre-med or medical student, see other threads on the topic) So no, having done research in a surgical field wont hurt you. Do concentrate on your academics (steps, grades), they're way more important.
