Final school choices

Haha! Knowledgeable and qualified. huh? Well, I try. I think I just spend WAY too much time on SDN. 😀

I finished my B.S. in Zoology and I'm getting another B.S. now in Microbiology. I've never actually stopped taking classes, but I've had some light semesters with 4-6 credit hours so that I could work at a clinic. Now I'm jobless (hence the pink hair) and enjoying just going to classes, though 16 credit hours is a bit of a shock after having 6 last semester.
 
BB is right..you seem like you should already be in...didnt you have a good gpa and gre too? I feel like I saw that on another thread. And you obviously have a ton of experience...
 
My B.S. will be in Zoology too! with a Chem minor. If I don't get in, I plan on hanging around school to and picking up either equine science minor or making it a major, not sure on that yet...
 
Smart expanding your range of schools you applied to. I am sure you will get in this year. You are obviously dedicated. I have a similar gpa problem. I left school for 12 years. Before I left my gpa was 3.19 but since I have been back its 3.81. However, combining with all my previous credits leaves me in between and not much room to improve my overall gpa.
 
I enjoyed Zoology, but the Micro classes have made me realize that I'm way to much of a science nerd for some of the classes in the Zool dept... or, really, just not the right *type* of science nerd. I'm enjoying the micro stuff quite a bit.

Savethewhales, I appreciate the positive thoughts. If only dedication was the only factor here... haha. I really hate that a bad GPA is so hard to make good again. IN truth, I've raised my GPA by nearly .3, which is a good bit, but it's not helping me out a lot.

Again, we'll see. 🙂
 
Well a micro degree is definitely useful in this profession and I am sure it will be well regarded. I am taking micro right now and I love it!
 
This is my second time applying.

And TT, that must have been hell entering all those classes into the VMCAS!

Plus, all those upper-division micro-type courses will REALLY help you your first year of vet school. I am incredibly grateful for histology, anatomy, cell biology, virology, and hematology, in particular.

Even though I have forgotten far too much, it helps immensely to be reviewing rather than learning entirely new things!
 
I took cell bio over the summer, and it has been the most beneficial course I have taken thus far in college.
 
I'm avoiding studying for an exam, so SDN is always good for procrastination. Here it goes...
Kansas, Michigan, Washington, Western, Colorado, Illinois, Royal, Ross, Mississippi, Minnesota, Iowa, Louisiana, Ohio, and Purdue.

Did you have to sell a kidney on the black market to afford all that? I dang near had to with 10.

How's the Western supp going? I'm pretending it doesn't exist, currently. 😀

I'm taking post-bacc classes at Penn now, and am also procrastinating on studying (or, well, procrastinating on going to bed so I can get up and finish studying).

And not to be completely off-topic for this thread, my final list for this year is: Tufts.

No. I finished undergrad long ago and not at Penn. Just taking a couple of classes this fall that I thought were interesting/told could help my app.
Your profile says you're in PA. But you're not applying to Penn?

tuckervet - good to find another Penn LPS person on here. Although I'm taking classes in the morning w/ the regular undergrads, so I probably wouldn't run into you.
And yeah, this is my first year applying, but I'm pretty much expecting to have to apply again next year (and will apply to more schools).

I applied there last year, but it seems they put a lot of weight on gpa and mine isn't that strong, so it didn't seem like a good investment for this year. when I had application reviews with other schools I was getting suggestions like do more community service, get more diversity of experience, but the only thing upenn said was to bring up my gpa, which I'm working on but didn't think I'd improved enough the make the difference for them.
I'm also ready to get out of Philadelphia, it's not really my favorite city (no hard feelings to anyone from philly!)

I'm actually doing daytime classes too because LPS wasn't offering the ones I needed

I agree! Everyone has their own reasons for their choices. It's interesting to hear why they choose the schools they do.

Here's my eleven (no order):

University of Melbourne

OOS everywhere except a small 5 seat contract with Iowa.
