I am curious to how you came to select those two California schools(Stanford/UCSD)? If you were applying to UCSD, I'd throw in there UCLA and look into the Charles R Drew/UCLA med program as well.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is my final list for medical schools as I have them on the ACMAS application-- what do you all think?

my sGPA was around a 3.55 until my final semester when I got a C in Organic II and Physics II due to justifiable circumstances. I'm hoping you all can add input into my school list.

Albert Einstein
Case Western
Hofstra
Drexel
Duke
Emory
Dartmouth
Mt. Sinai
Johns Hopkins
Keck
Temple
Northwestern
Penn State
Penn
Rutgers NJMS (Strong Ties)
Rutgers RWJ (Strong Ties)
Jefferson
Stanford
Tulane
USF Morsani
UCSD
U. Cincinnati
U. Miami
U. Pittsburgh
U. Rochester
U. Utah
U. Virginia
Vanderbilt
Cornell

What schools should I remove/add? I have one shot at this and I believe 20% of the process is just applying to the right schools with the right app.

I have plenty of clinical and non-clinical experiences. My main service population are minority groups in psych wards. My personal statement is, in my opinion good, but needs some work. I have normal LOR's, and my work experience is mainly blue collar which transitioned over to clinical work.
Honestly, I don't think that you're going to get much traction with the URM angle by being 1/4 Mexican. Do you have any service to Hispanic communities?

A downward GPA trend doesn't help either. What justifiable circumstances cause this? Why didn't you take a LOA or Ws?

I'm going to be more conservative in my recommendations:
All NJ schools
Wayne State
VCU
EVMS
Geisinger
Any OOS private MD school (except in GA) where you GPAs are > their 10th %iles.
Any DO school. I can't recommend Touro-NY, Nova, Wm Carey, LUCOM, for different reasons. MSUCOM? Read up on Larry Nasser and you decide. LMU has an accreditation warning, which concerns me.

OP has a lot of work experience with minority groups in psych wards. Does this count or not?

I was brought up in a mix of cultures, my primary being hispanic. Its noticeable in my practice and when I teach, the hispanic clients always strike conversation with me about where I'm from and if I speak spanish and are generally more comfortable when working with me vs other clients. I've used this advantage to help me forge relationships with clients that are otherwise different than those of my colleagues. The 1/4 is by blood but I'm culturally there

Sounds fair enough. Make sure to play this up in essays

As far as my downward trend, I only declined for the last semester and then recovered with my MCAT score as well as a post-bac A+ in an upper level science course immediately afterwards. I had rigorous coursework and the health of my immediate family was failing to a level that required me to extend myself so that I was physically present. I essentially became power of attorney-- what would you make of this?
That you were a good family member...but you're expected to do that. Doing it for strangers is harder. That said, play up this in adversity/resilience essays

Delete the NJ schools unless you grew up in NJ or went to school there. If so, add SUNY SB and SUNY DS to the list, and the Manhattan Titans as well.

Regarding LORs, just look at the school's website. They give clear requirements on which letters they accept.
