Your MCAT is way below the cutoff for Touro CA & both Midwestern schools.

MCAT is more than fine for RVU. Just ask any one of the low 500/26 acceptees this year. They have a hard on for upper div bio classes, so as long as you have plenty of those with good grades then you're set.

RVU seems to be an oddball. While reading the specific school thread from this past cycle, I noticed people with low GPA/ high MCAT accepted, low MCAT/high GPA accepted as well. However, there was a significant number of people with high MCAT/GPA that got rejected pre-interview.

I've seen low MCAT/medium-low GPA as well (Ex. 3.4/500). Almost makes it seem like they have no idea what they are doing. @bon22 care to speculate on what you think they're looking for based on your interactions with the school?

My opinion. I'm open to being corrected.

PNWU (State School): Yep

ATSU SOMA & KCOM: Reach

RVUCOM: I would have said no but others refuted that so I'll call it a reach.

LECOM (all campuses) yep. New Elmira campus opening in the fall btw.

VCOM (all campuses): yep. You can only really apply to one.

WesternU - NW: Reach

TUNCOM: nope

TUCOM: nope

NYITCOM: nope

MUCOM: yep

WCUCOM meh. They're regional. You don't want to go there anyway.

RWUCOM: Don't think this is a school.

WVSOM: probably the best school that's realistic with your stats.

KYCOM: yep

DMUCOM: nope

LMUDCOM: yep

CCOM & AZCOM: not unless you make a blood sacrifice to the ghost of AT Still.

I wish I knew what the deciding factor is. I applied with a 3.9/500 in the middle of November. When I got the acceptance call, they said that the interview was a huge deciding factor in my admission. As for pre-interview rejections though, I have no clue what drives decisions although I assume that the essays play a huge part.

Thank you for all the input. Are most of you counting me out on many of these schools purely based on my MCAT score?

Thank you. To all these nopes, should I even bother applying?

Definitely not to ccom and azcom. I personally don't think you should, but I'm just some random guy on the Internet at the end of the day. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Thanks. I'm just trying to follow everyone's advice to "apply early and broadly"

Definitely don't apply to AZCOM, they will tell you verbatum over the phone they want a 507+ (whatever is equivalent to a 29).

Id say apply everywhere else though, including CCOM (unless money is an issue, then I'd cut this school next).

Also, TUNCOM and NYITCOM are definitely not "nopes." They should be in the "reach" category. To OP, assuming no red flags, you'll most likely get into at least one of the listed "reach" schools. Just apply and see what happens.

Thanks! I'll still be applying to those 🙂

I disagree but at the end of the day, it's only 100 bucks more. I'd add CUSOM to OP's list as well. Let us all know next year how it panned out. The application cycle is a weird and nebulous beast and I'm glad I only had to do it once.

also, what do you consider a red flag?

Red flags are anything that the adcoms may see and give them reason to believe that you wouldn't be a suitable candidate for medical school.

Ex. An LOR stating that they would NOT recommend you, writing something absurd/crazy in your personal statement (one story I heard someone say was that diseases don't actually exist and it's just in people's heads---- imagine allowing this person into medical school ), lacking basic social skills, displaying immaturity, etc.
