How come every DO school has a bajillion threads except MSUCOM? And has somebody heard from them in the past month? I know they accept 90% of their class before January, but they and UVM are the last two med schools I'm waiting for and if I'm going to get rejected, sooner than later is better.

ps. I have not been interviewed, but then again I am not a hot girl, or even a girl for that matter.

Despite being neither a girl nor hot by any stretch of the imagination, I interviewed at MSUCOM last Wednesday, 3/15, with six other people, and they told me that they'd get back to me within two or three weeks. I read somewhere that their interview schedule usually only runs through February, but as I said, I interviewed in March. I was also told that, in the past, they have accepted as many as 65 people off the waiting list (for a class size of 150, IIRC). Draw whatever conclusions you will from this information.

As a sidenote, HIMH, if House is really your hero (I'm not sure whether or not that's a tongue-in-cheek joke), then you're probably better off going to an MD school rather than a DO. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure if they were still interviewing. I was even told that some people were just getting accepted without interviews. Since I haven't heard from them, I'll put them in my rejected pile along with UVM who I have remained, quite pathetically, in their possible interview pool for 3 months.

In response to my name, I have a horrible imagination. So when I picked my name it was because at the time I was watching House, MD. I'll go wherever somebody will accept me. Even if it's a masters now.

BengaliDoc:

I heard this from Kathie Schafer, the Director of Admissions...I doubt there's a more reliable source than her 😛 She said the highest number they had ever taken off the waitlist was 65, and the lowest was 29. She also said they had already taken five off the waitlist, but they're apparently unwilling to disclose where you are on the waitlist unless you're *really* close to the top. Also, if you're in the top third or so of the waitlist, they offer you automatic admission for next year.

House:

MSUCOM did offer admission without interviews (this was the first year they did so), but those were way back in December, I think. If they haven't offered you an interview yet, it's probably safe to assume that you're not going to get in. Sorry 🙁 Best of luck with everything.

Good luck to you all!!! I will be starting this summer, and have known for months, but I will cross my fingers for you guys 🙂 Stay positive and post on the MSUCOM Class of 2010 when u get in!!!

im on the alternate list, but i was never interviewed. is there another 'waitlist' of people who were interviewed and THEN were waitlisted? this is so confusing!!! or is it all one list. i emailed kathie for some update on my position on the list, and other info, etc... but no response. how did u get a hold of her? and the top third percent that is automatically admitted next year, how many is that usually? thanks for any help!!! i appreciate it. 🙂

Who knows what the hell is going on... Somebody said they were put on the waitlist and then asked to come in to tour the school. He was in-state, and I am out of state so maybe that's the difference. For your other questions I have no idea, but calling them is a big help if you can get past the secretary. The admissions officer in charge is very helpful, the person who answers the phone is not so helpful (from my own experience calling 10-12 times).

Yeah, the secretary is always seen as an "obstacle." In truth, when you get to know her she's quite nice, but I think that she fields so many calls she's gotten cynical and a bit "weathered" on her phone manner. Kathy Schafer is awesome, so ask if you can speak with her.
And make sure to meet the Office of Admissions assistant when you visit, she really is nice, we get along decently and she waves at me now. 😀
Best of luck everyone.

I am in a strange situation. I interviewed at MSUCOM during mid Feb. and haven't heard a word back yet. I inquired about my status around mid March and they said that they would let me know once a decision has been made. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there with a similar situation. I am getting really anxious and don't know what to make of this silence from the school. Any suggestions? 😳

I hope that I'm not the bearer of bad news...they've stopped interviewing and accepting new applications for the year. I'd call as soon as you can to find out what's up with your application and if it's in "limbo," what you can do to increase your chances.
All the best luck!

Has anybody who is currently on the waitlist successfully find out what quartile you are in?

Best I got was to find out I was in the top third...but that was back in January and they were still getting applications, so I'm worried I may have dropped out of that top third...

who told you that, did you have to talk to kathy schaffer? what are your mcat and g.p.a if you don't mind telling and also what month did u interview, are you out of state or in state?

I was told that in an e-mail (it was signed 'Kathy Schaffer', but it was a pretty generic e-mail). My MCAT was a 25S and GPA was a 3.58 when I applied, but I have really good extra curricular activities and a ton of volunteer experience (clinical and non clinical). I didn't interview, I was one of their, "We know everything we need to know about you, our class has been full since dec. 15th but you were lazy and didn't fill out your 80-page secondary early enough so now we're going to put you in the top third of the waitlist without an interview" applicants (they didn't say it in those words exactly).
Oh, and I'm in state.
Hope that was helpful!

I feel you on the secondary part. Thanks for posting about your situation. The waiting has been really stressful.

Does anyone know how the waitlist is ranked? is it based on month of interview, g.p.a, MCAT, overall profile, or something else?

I know everybody who hASn't received an invitation is mad, but vif everybody understands that anerly redponse to the secondary is crucial then why wouldn'
t you comply? I knew hat June was the earliest so I made sure to get everything in. Now people are squacki9ng about March and February? I dont really undrstand the beef?

Hey guys. I just sent an email withdrawing my acceptance from MSU-COM. So, there's at least one spot that will open up. I sent it this a.m.

Good luck to you. It's a great school.

You're awesome! ...I wish there were more posts like this...
At most, I have 27 people ahead of me (i know i'm in the top third, and they've taken 5 people off the wait list already...they'll probably take another one after they get your withdrawl, and there are about 100 people on the wait list every year, so if i'm at the very bottom of that third and number 33, then i have 27 people...unfortunately, they won't tell me where in that third I am...)

And to dhp98, some of us DID fill everything out as early as we could, but for us August MCATers, we had to wait until November for them to receive everything. Only THEN did I get my secondary and fill that out within a couple weeks. They told me I'd get reviewed by January. January comes around and they tell me that they've finally reviewed my app., but the class is full so I get put on the waitlist. Granted I'm guaranteed a spot for 2007, but I don't want to just sit around for a year...I want to go to med school dammit!
Frankly, I just don't think it's fair to admit the whole class by Dec. 15th and not give anyone they review past then a chance...

they sent you an email and told you that you are granted a spot for next year if you they don't grant you a spot this year?

Is their correspondence through e-mail BANGLA DOC? 😱

You know what, I was just looking and looking for that e-mail and couldn't find it, and then realized that they sent me an e-mail just saying I was waitlisted. Then, a couple days later, they sent me a letter in the mail saying that I was guaranteed a spot for the next year since I was in the top third of the wait list. Sorry for the confusion!

for those of you who are interested:
class of 2010
MCAT avg 8.54
GPA avg 3.53 (this year)
around 259 students have been accepted
118 students are currently on the waitlist

Thanks for the info BENGAL. The waitlist seems big.

can anybody around southeast michigan who has shadowed a D.O. give me the name and address of the D.O. that they shadowed?

Sorry Benagli, I never shadowed a D.O. 😳
I recently found out that I have been on the waitlist since FEB. 22 :scared:
