After weeks of being waitlisted, getting extremely nervous, and preparing myself to look for jobs, I finally got the call from UIC yesterday! I'm in! 🙂 Upon checking my AADSAS this morning though to see if my status had updated, I also noticed that I had been accepted to SIU on the 23rd-- I had no clue until today because I don't check it that often.

I saw that there was another recent topic on the merits of each Illinois school, so I don't mean for this thread to become that. I'm just really happy and wanted to share the news with the SDN community. I was scheduled to interview at Midwestern-Illinois in March, but I'll be cancelling that interview. Probably will attend UIC, but the price is something to consider as well. Just trying to take it all in right now!

congrats!

my advice is to go to whichever school is the cheapest, haha. keep your debt as low as possible.

Is one cheaper than the other? That is where you should go unless the school had salient problems during the interview

SIU is cheaper than UIC, but they're both in state for me. I need to sit down and look at the numbers. I really didn't like the Alton atmosphere or my visit to SIU. I know that they have a good clinical reputation, but I think I'd like to keep more doors open for specializing. Also, I'm originally from a suburb of Chicago, so UIC would be nice to home to. While the education may be the equivalent, I think the intangibles may push me to attend UIC regardless of the higher cost.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong: I thought one of the weirdest things was that the large lecture halls at Southern didn't have any desks. It looked like there were some on the periphery of the room, but everyone was writing on their laps! I thought that was weird.

I also accidentally chucked the papers UIC gave me during my interview and I'm now having a hell of a time finding an accurate tuition and fees chart...
