Finally PCOM Interview!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats!

I've been complete since about the middle of November. I just hope I can get an interview as well.

I was complete the end of August...I guess this proves that you shouldn't give up hope. I basically live in philly now..so it would be a dream come true though I must give props to WVSOM they do have $2000 of my money 😀

Congrats...iam still waiting for pcom to give me some sort of response.

LOL! Wow, they are slow. I gave up and withdrew after I sent my deposit to DCOM. Good luck on your interview!!!😀 :luck:

Congrats! Hopefully i hear back from PCOM-GA soon 😎

Not that they are slow. PCOM recieves the most (and if i'm wrong...the 2nd most) applications out of all the Osteopathic Medical schools. You try to read 4400 applications. HAHA

I know you hear this often, but an interview at PCOM is a crap shoot. I know people who have been rejected with a 28 MCAT and 3.8 GPA...and also know people who applied late and got in with a 21 MCAT. Just be sure if you get an interview, don't be an ass and be real. (kinda cliche)

Do you know if that 28 MCAT/3.8 GPA applicant was rejected pre or post interview?

Congrats! I can't believe you'd give up a 2000 dollar deposit though! :scared: Good luck at your almost-Valentines Day interview. Hopefully they'll feel the love

I also know several people who have applied over the last several years w/ high stats >30,3.5 and relatively low 23/3.4.....no real correlation existed as to who got in even w/ such a discrepancy in scores. I feel like PCOM takes a look at if they think you are "good enough" academically and then weighs the other aspects of your application much heavier once some baseline criteria is met. I have nothing to back that up beyond anecdotal stories...its just an observation.

Trust me i sent in my deoposit to DCOM, which is 2000$ as well. I love this school...however PCOM is my no.1 choice and i would absolutely choose it over any school in the country.lol

Opened my email today and finally got an interview at PCOM on Feb 12th!!!! Woooohooo! 😀

Hey

What are your stats, if you dont mind me asking?

thats funny because i was talking to my one friend yesterday who's OMS1 at PCOM and she had the same dilemma. she had to choose between the same two schools. Except she was about to submit her WVSOM deposit when she found out she got accepted to PCOM.

I got an interview today!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀

This is the best news I've gotten in a while!!!

I'm so thrilled! Except now I have to impress them...either that or just don't act like an idiot.

Interview invite is for the 29th of January. I was complete mid-October...

CONGRATS!! I know you have been waiting waiting.....and waiting. 😉 👍

I'll drop by on the 29th to calm your nerves. The interview is real laid back.

That is really awesome. I am so happy with this interview invite... I'm like a kid in a candy shop! It would be great if you could stop by..thanks!

From what I remember, statistically I have a decent chance for acceptance with an interview invite. That is truly awesome, but I know it is by no means guaranteed so I hope that I can make a good impression.

Is January 29 late in the game...has PCOM filled most of their class yet?

I would suggest you do both. 😉

Congrats on the interview! Maybe there's still hope for me.

Excellent job! You must be quite excited, for I know this is your #1 choice, right?

The whole interview day is really great, extremely laid back, so no worries!
I was at the accepted students luncheon, and I counted around 70 or so people there. You have to realize that not all those people will defintely attend PCOM, as well as some people probably could not make it.

PM me if you have any specific questions about the interview! Best of Luck!

Thanks - I probably will have questions closer to the interview date. I appreciate everyone's congrats and am really greatful to have received this opportunity. I was starting to become extremely nervous that I wouldn't be hearing from PCOM. It just goes to show that patience is a virtue that I have yet to possess. 😀

I'll have my gameface on January 29th... if you're a competitor applicant, just know that I do throw elbows, jk!

Congratulations!! I interviewed there last month, and was accepted before the holidays. It's an awesome school, and such a laid back interview. The students there were spectacular, and there is a woman at the front desk, Ms. Debbie, I believe, who is very enthusiastic about Monday mornings. She actually put me in a better mood. I'd go there just because of her!

She is very enthusiastic about everyday 👍

What up Debbie??

Congratulations Dr. Max! I am still waiting to hear from them. Hopefully I will receive some positive news in the coming weeks. 🙂

She is definately a sweet woman.

thanks for the good luck everyone..congrats drmax...knock their socks off! PCOM is my top choice by a mile so I guess I can only cross my fingers. 😀

Congrats to you too JJ18!! I am not quite sure how I got an interview date before yours, seeing as you received your invite before me. Anyway, best of luck on interview day!! I'm happy taht some of us who have been waiting forever are hearing back from PCOM 🙂

yeah that is definitely a weird thing..but I won't question it. I'm just happy I got an interview at all! 🙂 Definitely let me know how it goes..even though it's still a few weeks away!

Last year I didn't get an interview at PCOM, because of low undergraduate grades...on the phone the admissions was very positive and convinced me to enter their postbac program, which guarantees an interview, but not acceptance. So there are about 40 or so of us postbacs who are currently being interviewed (80 in the program, but apparently only half want a pcom interview). They told us that of the 260 spots they haven't even filled half, though more invitations are out there. Probably they interview the best candidates first, and many of them are often accepted at other schools like Jefferson or Temple. They said that we'd hear within 4 weeks of the interview. Last year most of the biomeds were interviewed later in the year and many were put on the waitlist.

My point is this... if you didn't get an interview and you are set on PCOM its not the end of the storry. I highly reccomend the biomed program. You take one year of classes taught at night by the same professors who teach the DO program. Our anatomy class is very good.

Hey everyone!
Congrats on you're interviews and if you haven't heard yet, don't give up hope! This will probably sound redundant but I was complete in August and interviewed Dec 4th. I'm currently in the PCOM class of 2011. Make sure you are enthusiastic about why you want to be a DO, and why OMM is important/integral in the osteopathic premise. Additionally, be sure you ask some sort of question at the end, it's your chance to show them (again) that you really are interested in the school so be intelligent and thoughtful!!!
Good Luck!!

I'm a navy veteran, current LECOM post-bacc student, with a 3.29 GPA and a 23M MCAT [verbal 6, bio 9, physical 8 🙁], and I have an interview at PCOM. I try to do a lot of volunteer work including Junior Achievement, Operating Room stuff, and Kids Cafe. My post-bacc GPA is fairly decent, (88%). A classmate of mine at LECOM was recently accepted to both PCOM and LECOM, She gave me a list of questions they asked her at PCOM:

1) What do I like to do for fun?
2) How would my best friend describe me?
3) Strongest + Weakest point of undergraduate degree?
4) What did you learn best from being a CNA (she was a nurse assistant)?
5) several questions from your essay/personal statement.
6) Why osteopathic medicine?
7) Mom and Dad's importance to you, other mentors?

I'm freaking out about my WVSOM interview this week, it's my first one. my PCOM interview is next month. Both are good schools and I would love to attend either of them. LECOM requires 5 behavioral science credits so I'm taking them to meet their requirements. As a post-bacc, I'm guaranteed a LECOM interview but can't be accepted until finish those classes so I've started registering for 6 credits while at the same time studying the post-bacc stuff.

I'm also applying for the HPSP Navy scholarship. It's a ton of paperwork but I'm just about done with it. I've already done 4 years on an aircraft carrier so I know what to expect as far as navy life is concerned.

The post-bacc program is great, the material is the exact same stuff the med students do, but slightly less intense. My roommate is an MS1 (1st year med student) so I've seen first hand, her material and some of her stuff is the exact same material we're handed as post-bacc students.

Hope this information was helpful to someone. I'm constantly stressed about everything, I really want to be a physician and my entire life has led up to this point. Best of luck to everyone.
