Ok so It am about to start college but need to know how yall went about paying for school and living and what not. I live 30+ miles from the cc I plan on doing my first year at (been out of school for four years) and then transferring to UTSA near where I used to live. I'm currently certified as a personal trainer and getting licensed as an EMT because I like helping people and just helping them lose weight wasn't enough helping for me. I'll be working as an EMT while in college but is that (I'm currently a correction officer so I figure about same wages) + stafford loans enough to take care of living costs and school costs and all else or how did everyone else finance their schooling? I've never been to college and mine is less than helpful at explaining the aid and loan processes. Also does working when I'm not going to classes + the studying + the volunteer + the EC + the clinical experience + research = any social life? Thanks for yalls advice in advance

Tip #1: Lose the personal profile picture. Never a good idea.

As far as financial aid, it all depends. A CC is going to be significantly less than a private liberal arts school, for instance. I can tell you that I take the Stafford loans and I have a full-tuition scholarship. I have plenty left over. I also decided to live at home to save thousands of dollars, so I'm lucky.

You just need to sit down and calculate it all up. Monthly living costs + tuition + gas for getting to school + book costs. Then you can see what that Stafford loan is like and figure it out from there.

Judging from here: http://www.alamo.edu/district/business-office/cost-of-attendance/
the tuition at a Texan CC is $66 per credit hour. So the cost of classes is really not that much compared to the rest of the expenses. As for financial aid, you and your parents need to fill out FAFSA, which will determine your eligibility for different types of financial aid.

I can't believe they have housing for $200 a month 😱 What a nice state to be in!

CC is cheap (relatively)
Live cheap, apparently ^ said it was 200$ a month?? If that's not true, find a roommate or live at home.
Volunteer while at CC - you probably won't get much research if you aren't in a 4 year university simply because CC instructors don't do research and labs tend to prefer their own students.
EMT will give you clinical experience
Social life... sure - that's up to you and your free time
Studying/class = prn = as needed to maintain A's
EC - whatever you like to do - ie. training

You already have two part time job lined up - so I don't think you need more part time jobs.
Good luck

Idk 200$ a month. a year is 4000+ at the closest cc, and alamo school is in SA near where I used to live maybe that's where the tuition + cost of housing? Thank yall for your input and help especially from moisne for answering both of my questions. With the picture, nah it's staying... I do appreciate the concern and respectful way of addressing it, but I'm not overly stressed about having a picture of me on a premed/med website + I'm an adult and doubt someones gonna track me down lol

@Lannister I bet but I also have a higher chance to die in a car wreck , I'm just really not that worried. 40,000 men are stalked threateningly (not hurt or killed) and over 2.4 million folks die from aneurysms annually, 4 out of 7 that recover (ruptured) will have disabilities. Internet stalking is a little overplayed and I don't think a premed website is specifically a hunting ground for bodybuilding male victims. It does happen though and I really do appreciate your help and advice in staying safe.

No one is telling you to change your pic because someone will stalk and kill you. You need to appreciate the value of anonymity on the internet. Say something stupid and it can possibly have consequences when you apply. Why risk that possibility?

You might want to at least make your Facebook private unless you stole some random guy's pic, Mr. B.

I think another concern is that - if you say something that can jeopardize your risk of being accepted into a med school or even retract an offer.... it's pretty easy to track you down.

ps. once upon a time, a student was accepted into a med school but made some comment on SDN and his/her med school retracted the offer of acceptance...
I don't know about you - but I say dumb things all the time here.

There is a reason no one uses their personal pictures here.

Most folks talk about not putting your face or information out there because of getting hurt or this and that, so it's no where near unreasonable that I would make the assumption that yall had intended that message.
However, I didn't think about it in terms of identifying myself and mistakes to med schools. That's a really good point and definitely a good reason to change my profile picture. Thank you, I really appreciate for your helpful correction.
