Financial Aid-- CSS Profile-- what is it?

So I'm looking even deeper into the whole FA process for a private school, and I notice something called the Profile. I remember dealing with it in HS while applying to college, but haven't heard about it since. Who has filed it, and what is it for?

I have completed the CSS Profile form. It is only used by a few schools and is used to determine institutional aid. It's pretty painless after doing FAFSA--most of the same types of questions, but a little more detail. The only school I applied to that requires it is Wake Forest. Hope that helps.
