FAP is financial assistance program open to physicians at any point during their residency training. Applicants must be PGY1 complete and successfully passed all three steps of the USMLE/COMLEX exams on the first attempt. Certain individuals may be eligible to apply in PGY I with approval from OTSG. A full medical license is required for all applicants entering PGY III. Each FAP participant incurs a minimum ADO of 2 years or one-half year for each half year or portion thereof of FAP sponsorship, whichever is greater. Individuals must be US citizens.
**** This only applies for Specific Areas of Specialty that the U.S. Army is missioned for Active Duty (Full-Time) in 2026 which include
Preventive Medicine
Anesthesiology
Psychiatrist
Internal Medicine
Infectious Disease
Family Medicine
General Surgeon
Orthopedic Surgery
and Emergency Medicine.
FAP Details
$2,999 monthly stipend
$45K annual grant
Sign-on bonus
Minimum two-year active duty obligation
1/2 year of the received scholarship for 1/2 year of service obligation
Service obligation will start after residency
