Well, first off, you can tell her that she will not be eligible for any kind of federal aid (including all those Perkins, Stafford loans, etc). If she will go to a private school, it will be up to them what kind of aid will give her, and it will mainly be merit scholarships, or some kind of scholarships; however let her know that unless she is a completely steller student (3.9-4.0 GPA, 40s MCAT), then those scholarships will not be that much. I manged to get into UTSW, and the great thing about Texas schools, is that although they have a very competitive out-of-state admittance policy, once you are accepted, they will give you a $1000 scholarship, which in turn will drop your tuition rate to in-state tuition. International students are viewed as out-of-staters.
So no matter what, she will need to come up with some money. For international students, there are several corporations that will lend money, as long as you have a US citizen, or permanent resident with good credit-history, and solid income co-signing the loan. I used TERI -
www.teri.org, for my loans, and they have pretty decent interest rates.
That said, she needs to know that internationals get in very hard in medschool to start with. I had a 3.98 GPA, 33MCAT, 4 yrs of ER/EMS experience, and taught KAPLAN; I applied to 24 schools, got 3 interviews (declined 1 of them - too far away), and got accepted into UTSW, and wait-listed for Emory.
Anyways, hope that helps.
