hey everyone, just wanted to know if people have begun to fill out the fafsa forms for financial aid. at an interview back in october, they said we should get cracking on that sometime in jan or feb. is this true? is it just me, or does anyone else find this whole financial aid thing a bit confusing. oh well, i guess any help would be great. thanks a bunch!

yeah do it now.

get it done before march becuase its due first week of march.

yeah for some of us it is somewhat confusing...but follow the little helpful instructions and hopefully it will be ok.

i am going to fill out a paper one first to practice and get everything right before i go online and do it there

I'm not going to move this post, but you should check out the financial aid forum. I'm sure there's lots of information in there.

I don't think the FAFSA is due at any certain time, but schools like for you to have it in by the end of April, I think. The actual FAFSA deadline is sometime in the summer, but that would obviously be too late for med school since the schools need this info before they will award you any institutional aid. But as with everything in this process, the earlier the better.

Actually, the FAFSA deadline is June 30 of the following year. That is to say, you can still apply for Federal Student Aid for this current school year (the Fall 2003-Spring 2004 school year) up until June 30, 2004.

The importance in putting in your application early is that the school will use this information to determine your eligibility for institutional grants and scholarships which may be on a first come, first served basis. If however, you know you will only use Stafford loans and can afford to pay for everything yourself, you can wait and fill out the FAFSA until long after school has started and still receive loans for that school year.

I forgot to add that the school may have an earlier deadline than the federal deadline.
