I've seen a lot of posts about not knowing about fin aid packages before making decisions on which school to attend. I seem to be in a different predicament.

I am currently on the Alternate List at Wayne State, and the other day I received a financial aid award letter from their Office of Student Affairs/Financial Aid. I am assuming that this is not an error, that they are just getting their affairs in order in the case I am accepted. Two questions:

1) Should I be getting my hopes up about possible acceptance?

2) The "Cost of Attendance" portion of the award letter grossly underestimates what even an in-state student would require, and I am out of state (i.e. does not even cover their in-state tuition costs). Is this an error, or am I expected to cover the rest with private loans?

I will call the office directly, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this too (primarily the Fin Aid package prior to an acceptance)

Thnx,

PBM

I don't believe you should have been awarded anything as you are not an acceptee. Either your acceptance is forthcoming or they made an error in sending that letter.

Dittos on being waitlisted and receiving a financial aid statement. Perhaps I should call...

same situation here....

I called the admissions office this morning and they said that the financial aid award letter doesn't mean anything as far as being accepted or not.

Nice of them to put "Welcome to Wayne State University!" at the top of the letter.

Welcome to my recycling bin

I just got off the phone with them, and since we are in the University's but not the Med School's system for filing a FAFSA, we had gotten defaulted to the undergrad system.

What a friggin' tease.

You should guilt them into accepting you. That's completely unfair, to get you hopes up like that.
"Good news, we have found the cure to your cancer.......oh, I'm sorry, computer glitch!"

i smell poo. this is extremely *ssy. 👎

I just got an apology email from them. Apparently this happened to everyone on the alternate list.

That "Welcome to Wayne State University!!" opening line still gets me though.
