is it premature to start filling out financial aid forms even if you have not been accepted anywhere yet? i mean, what if you get accepted in may, wouldnt that be past most deadlines? im talking like federal/state aid. do you have to designate the school you will attend on the form? what happens if you file for fafsa or something and end up not getting accepted anywhere?

any advice would be excellent!

no you must fill out ASAP!!!!

doesnt matter if you havent been accepted anywhere...not many people have. but you will lose the max amt of fed aid that you can be eligible for if you dont turn in your fafsa by the deadline.

just pick some schools that you have interviewed at...just fill in the entire slots they give you.

if you dont get accepted then the school will just ignore you so it doesnt matter who you send the fafsa to.

if you need to add more schools along the way then fafsa lets you do that.

im going to put down the two schools i got accepted to...then the two schools i am still waiting on post interview and with the other two slots put in the other state school that put me on preinterview hold.

so we're talking about fafsa right? thats the federal one like for undergrad?
what about aid from your state? can this be done ahead of time as well? does it make a difference if you attend school out of your home state? im from ny if that helps...

thanks!! i will get on this asap!

yeah we are talking about fafsa...

and state aid comes from your school looking at your fafsa information for the most part, unless you have additional forms from the schools for scholarships.

but regardless most all aid is based on the the personal and parental information you put on the fafsa.

The official deadline is not until June 30 (or maybe it's July 30), sometime in the summer. But all the schools will tell you to fill it out as soon as possible and send it in so they can begin calculating award amounts. If you wait until this deadline in the summer, you're not likely to get your money by the time school starts. (Speaking from experience with undergrad loans.)

if you want full amount of aid then you need to turn it in by march 1 or 3. i forget.

You can still qualify for the full amount of aid even if the FAFSA is not completed by March 1 or whatever others say. The deadline for the 2004-2005 school year is actually June 30, 2005 (yes, that's 2005...next year). The early deadlines are typically for institutional scholarships, grants, and loans. The federal money will still be there after March 1 or whatever. However, complete the FAFSA as soon as you can so that everything is ready for when you are accepted and so that you might be eligible for institutional grants and scholarships.

Moving to financial aid forum...

You can file FAFSA as of Jan 1st.....there is no reason why not to be on top of this and be ready...

Being on top of things is key!!!

Good work!

i dont know how to work this form when i dont know what schools to put on it.

i have 1 interview and have not heard anything from 12 schools... which is more than the amount you can add.

wtf! is it possible to change things once (if) you find out where you are going?
