Of the schools I have been accepted to, I have only received scholarships from my state school. I know its a bit early but do schools give other scholarships later on? I ask because I want to pick the school I end up going to for reasons in addition to money but as of right now the price difference is very significant. Do schools give more aid as they receive the fafsa?

Yes. I would hold off until you have all of your financial aid information.

What kind of scholarship have you already received? My state school doesn't hand out crap that I know of before they receive everyones fafsa, for which the "priority date" is the first week of March.

If it was a merit scholarship, do you mind sharing your stats? I have always been interested in what type of student can receive these.

When I applied, I received full tuition and half tuition from two of my state schools, and quarter tuition from a private school with a 3.9 and 37.

Basically it takes high stats or something really unique about your application.

So I assume the reason these schools give you the scholarships is to ensure that you will study there, if so, does that mean that us EDP'ers are SOL?

There is some recruiting going on with the scholarships, but I imagine EDP people are given some consideration for at least some of the money. I guess it all depends on how much money your school has to throw around.

I think EDPers probably get some consideration but far less than someone with multiple acceptances. They are used for recruiting because the people with high stats boost their numbers and it helps raise their image or bragging rights of having a Rhodes type scholar there.

Personally I think EDP is a terrible idea since it confers no advantage other than finding out 15-30 days earlier. The applicant pools are competitive enough that unlike college, applying EDP with marginal numbers won't give you a better chance and getting in, and if you dont get in, it makes the rest of your applications late.

I should say this is regarding the merit scholarships, financial aid has little bearing on EDP vs. non-EDP.

Ok that is pretty much what I was thinking as far as the scholarships go. I never realized that EDP would put me at a disadvantage as far as money goes.

Anyways, I applied EDP to my state school, and even though I barely met the requirements, I got in early. I'm sure this isn't true for every school, but noone that applied EDP at my school DIDN'T get in early that I know of. It has been a huge relief to have the whole admissions process done and over with, but maybe not worth what I could have gotten in scholarships had I received multiple acceptances. But like I said I barely met the EDP requirements so I don't know how heavily I would have been "recruited." But with my double major (bio and span) and somewhat unique ec's who knows? Oh well, I'm happy with were I am at in the process.
