So how do I apply for Financial aid exactly for dental school?
What forms do I need to fill out for the aid and FAFSA? What steps do I need to take exactly please? Thanks.
Just curious, does an independent student receive more aid/loans than a dependent student?

Do students actually get financial aid for dental school? I get that when you submit a FAFSA and it comes back as LOANS,LOANS, LOANS. But is there grants and financial aid for students?

To fill out the FAFSA, you'll need to have completed your 2010 tax returns, and your parents income information if you are not independent.

www.fafsa.ed.gov, don't fill out any forms for a site that charges, it is a rip off.

If you've applied for federal aid before, you'll need your four digit PIN number.

Good luck!

I think this would depend on the school.

Is it true you can apply as an independent because you are in graduate school? Or do you need to be married/what requirement?

Does being independent help with financial aid? Considering I dont have a source of income myself, would I get more help?

I would give the Financial Aid office for the schools in question and ask them, they would be a much more reputable source of information than this forum.

Buddy, GET ON IT! I thought I was late completing the FAFSA, just submitted yesterday. THE DEADLINE IS MARCH FIRST, YOU NEED TO COMPLETE IT TODAYYY!

Agreed, already submitted FAFSA.👍 Actually submitted one Jan. 1st which was the opening day. Believe me, I have done as much research as possible to reduce my debt since I will be attending an expensive private school. Just never found good info about what types of aid were given out to students besides loans.

Thank you WhichRoom😉

Are you sure the deadline is march 1? where does it say that?
I still have not gotten my tax returns completed.... you cant do them until after january 1... so they only give you a 2 month grace period to do them?? really?
where does it say the deadline is march 1? what if you are still on the wait list at schools or you still have not been accepted anywhere yet??

I am in NY and going to an NY school. It says:
New York
June 30, 2012 by midnight, Central Daylight Time. Applicants encouraged to keep a record of their submission by printing out their online FAFSA confirmation page or obtaining proof of mailing the FAFSA. Additional form may be required. Contact your financial aid administrator or your state agency.

March 1?? Am I late? really?

The deadline differs for different states (and schools). Mine is June 30th, but you obviously do not need to wait that late to do it. The longer you wait, the longer it will take for schools to get your federal aid (loan money) from the government. Some schools will tell you a certain date they need the money to be in by before you can start school.

Bottom line is what others here have said. If you haven't gotten your FAFSA completed, hurry up and get it done if you plan to matriculate this summer/fall.

Also, they encourage you to get your completed financial aid package through ASAP for you to be able to receive scholarships and other institutional aid. Unless you're rich, it may be very beneficial to you to get it done now.

Do you put the name of the schools that you are wait listed for on FAFSA? Such as Columbia?

Dental students are always considered independent for FAFSA/student aid purposes because a DDS/DMD is a professional degree. It doesn't matter if you are single or married. So, you do not have to include parental information on the form. However, there are certain types of aid that you may qualify for (some subsidized loans which might vary by school, I'm not 100% sure of the specifics) if you include parent information. So it is advantageous to do so.
