I think others will share the opinion with me that any US allopathic medical school is > carribean medical school. At a US allopathic medical school you will not have a problem gaining a residency in the states where as you may from a foreign school. Finch has some downfalls with cost and ranking, and are on probation, but when it comes down to it, its your own comfort level with the school you want to attend.

I believe you should toss out the whole "ranking" idea, unless you plan to be the next superstar surgeon of the milennium, medical school is about how a schools fits with your personality, your needs and your goals as a future physician. I interviewed at Rosalind Franklin (formerly Finch) and I loved it. Had I not already made a decision, RF would be seriously in the running. The facilities are gorgeous, the anatomy lab is well equipped and the opportunities for rotations in Chicago are immense. This school is going through some administrative re-vamping, which happens to even some of the best schools. When you decide to go to medical school, take the effort to really research a school, talk to the students, the director of admissions, or a faculty member if you can. I thought the school was great.

But please, I think you can make a more educated statement about your top choices of schools....while I'm offering my opinion, you might want to be aware that RF will be some students' #1 choice. By labeling as "low" or thinking it's not that great of a school, you might be serving up your own foot with dinner.

thanks everyone!...keep the replys coming!

i took a tour of finch this past summer as part of a medical conference for high school students i was teaching at. i spoke with a bunch of students (both medical and in the applied physiology prog)

some positives about finch - the facilities are pretty nice - classrooms, labs (anatomy, computer, histo, etc). they are making every effort their to improve their weaknesses as they are on probation. graduates can def. get into top residency programs. and finch is near chicago.

negatives - SOME of the students in the applied physio prog (who later matriculate into the med school) are pretty ordinary - some obviously didnt get into other US schools and a few i know didnt get into the top caribbean program programs but they managed to get into finch. on the other hand, there are some brilliant students there (like any US med school). the location (while near chicago) is relatively isolated so on a weekday, its not feasible to go study in the city or anything. also, there is no hospital on campus and their research is limited.

the thing abpout Finch is $$$. three poeple i know go there b/c mommy and daddy dropped the dollars to get them in
