If you had a choice between going to medical school at FInch or Drexel where would u guys go?... iheard that they both are pretty low...which school has a better chance at getting residency?.....are these schools equivalent to carrib schools.....like st. george's???? thanks!!

They are not even close to Carrib schools.

They are both fine schools just look at the match lists. If you put a great student into one of these schools they will end up with any residency at any location they want.

wow! i guess you're new at this.

there are variations at all medical schools in the US. however, at any school, if you do well clinically and on step one, you'll have a shot at even the most competitive residencies.

carribbean schools put you at a much greater disadvantage. i would say even if you were the top person at a caribbean school, you may still not match in a competitive residency.

They are both fabulous, and a millon times better than going to a carribbean school! That being said, I think that Drexel may have a slight advantage because people (especially in the Philadelphia area) still tend to think of it as being Hahnemann University, which was quite well-respected up until the whole shady Allegheny deal, which ran Hahnemann into the ground. Even though the Drexel numbers and stuff aren't as high as when it was Hahnemann, a lot of people still think of them as the same.

I may be a little biased, since I'm a post-bacc at Drexel and am hoping to obtain linkage there for August, and my dad graduated from Hahnemann, but that's the attitude I've run into here in Philly. 😉

I 110% agree that ANY US school is better than carribean schools.

On the topic of Drexel versus Finch, hmm...let me think, which school gave me an interview and which one is ignoring me? 😉

are you kidding? carribean is the last option to consider. there is no way in hell i would ever pick the carribean over either one of these schools. both are much higher up on the totem pole. i wouldn't call these schools low either; just check out the admissions statistics and you'll see it's much easier to get into a carrib school.

to answer your Q, i think drexel would be a better choice.

I have an interview there soon too and I was thinking of the exact same question ! I don't know if I will ask my interviewers that but maybe one of the people in the admissions office.

Temple was on probation for a year for their library and student debt load and it didn't affect any of the great residencies their graduates were getting. If the probation is for student debt load I don't see how it could possibly affect your residency choices.

I am a 4th year at Finch, yes the school is on probation, but not for academics. We have excellent professors, and if you look at our match list, we match at many top residency programs.

Yes, we are away from Chicago. 40 minutes tops not in rush hour.

During our 3rd year everyone moves to Chicago, because we do all of our rotations at hospitals in the center of Chicago.

I have had interactions with students from other schools in Chicago (loyola, rush, northwestern, uic, etc...) We all are taught the same thing in medical school.

Also, our Step 1 was higher than the national average.

You're definition of "middle of nowhere" is pretty stringent. 40 minutes to the south is almost 10 million people metro (Chicago), and 40 minutes to the north is almost 2 million people metro (Milwaukee). That's bigger than most states!
