I was hoping that someone out there has been through this or known someone who has; where would someone start looking to get back into pharmacy as a pharmacist after a license suspension? Active license now, with conditions. Seems like every job listing states "active license in good standing REQUIRED."

In South Dakota, I'm going to bet that you're going to have to move. It's a one-strike, you're out kind of a place particularly for diversion. Normally, your best bet would have been the Feds, but even we are not having particular difficulty hiring although the IHS does have jobs in your state. Don't bother with MN either.

i would apply for jobs in areas of high demand, rural areas or near Mexico border. not too many people wants to live and work near Mexico border, but thats really where the job is... also i would consider moving out of the country. singapore is english speaking and pays pretty well. come back when the tide is low, and your background is clean.

I think you would have a better shot getting a job at an independent pharmacy. Every corporation or hospital I have ever applied to say they want someone who has an active license in good standing.

I did per diem at a closed door pharmacy and the PIC had his license and record tainted due to attempted murder because he got in a road rage and shot at someones car. Some independents are desperate to low ball pharmacist and the best way to find these pharmacy jobs are on craiglist.

I wanted to bump this thread up again. Still looking for more information.

Recap: after practicing pharmacy for about 5 years, I was involved in a head on crash and ended up with months of physical therapy. while going through this process, I became addicted to pain meds. Was caught about 2 years later diverting controls (non-CII, not like it matters). Ended up with a suspended license for 2 years, a criminal conviction, and a very messy divorce. fast forward to today; I have over 3 years of sobriety, active in my states recovery program for pharmacists, attend my NA/AA meetings, and recently got my pharmacist license back (with a couple of conditions). I am now scratching my head on how to move forward and get working. doesn't look like other states will grant me a license until my conditions are clear.

What I am hoping for is 2 things. First, I am having problems finding leads and networking. I am hoping someone out there has gone through this before or know someone who has. Maybe we can PM so I can get some advice. Not sure if anyone out there knows what companies would be willing to give me a second shot.

Secondly. To those who have addiction/alcohol problems; don't think you are alone- you are not. I am willing to help anyone that asks. Please seek out help before you get into the same situation that I am trying to get out of.

This must be difficult. At this market, even people with clean license is having hard time to find job. I can't imagine how hard it is for someone have issues in their license. Maybe connect to some local pharmacy school? They tend to talk about things like that to students, and hopefully they might invite you to talk about your experience, and maybe get some connections with faculty or program organizers? Good luck.

Try for independent and expect an hourly rate that is lower than the market rate. Join your state pharmacy association, attend all the meetings and events, and network.

Accept any offer even if low-balled and in the boonies just to build resume so you can work your way back up slowly

Try something non-traditional where you do not have to deal with drugs directly...like remote order entry for a hospital or something like that. This way it is a non-issue.

Another potential option is to do IT work. Most analyst positions don't require any sort of license, but do want a pharmacy background. They pay less than informatics pharmacist jobs which do require a license, but you can still expect to make >70k or so.

What are the conditions on your license? Depending on what they are, they may not matter.

1. no manager/pic
2. no more than 10hrs/day- 40 hrs week
3. employer quarterly reporting

Can you dispense controls if you are the only RPh on duty? We ran into an applicant before that could not, and of course that was a no-go. I feel for ya. Good luck.

Just can't be a manager/pic.... which is pretty lucky. the definition of a staff pharmacist is very broad.
