Hey everybody...
I just finished the requirements for my degree in physiology this semester and am able to graduate. However i was planning on double majoring in Human biology which would make me take 1 more class. I have already been accepted to medical school.
As of now i have had a change of heart in finishing my double major. I feel like i can do better things with my time than taking one class to complete my double major. Financially and practically it seems very foolish to pursue the second degree.
Here is the catch guys....on my AMCAS application I wrote that I was double majoring. Do you think it would matter if I didn’t finish the double major? My school only requires that you have a bachelor by the time you enroll. Do u think this would hurt me at all if I didn’t finish my double major?

Thanks for the help everyone,

i doubt it matters if u finish it.. but i would just call the school uve been accepted at and ask, they wont take ur acceptance away for asking a question.

Call the school and ask beforehand. Generally an acceptance is contingent on you completing the degree(s) you stated on your AMCAS. Since you will have an undegraduate degree I don't know that it necessary, but I'd doublecheck!

I agree, I would call the school(s) and ask, just to be sure. Probably won't make a difference to them though as long as you complete a bachelor's before you matriculate.

If I was in your position I would just take the course. All that work for a double major I couldn't just stop short one class, I guess it would be a thing of pride for me. But if you have other things on your list, do what you gotta do!

Congrats on your acceptance.

I agree with the responses thus far - acceptances are contingent upon finishing your stated course of study.

But please do call and then post up the answer - I'm curious what they say.

For the record, I have 2 degrees and I think it took a lot of extra work to get another one done. Nobody cares - I've never been sure why. BUT if you're 1 class away, finish it off! It's nice to put on your CV (I have a BS & a BA - people actually notice, but they're generally not impressed)

lol...sorry. Well, I think two degrees are impressive to just the students that do it and no one else...🙄

While I was still in school, I was somehow under the enlightened impression that during job interviews they would say, "And TWO degrees? Wow. You did twice as many as everyone else - here's a blank check." Ahh, to be young again.

hey
i am in a similar situation. Although, it is with my minor. I have four classes to finish before i graduate and have one quarter left. I'm also reaching max amount of units. I called the schools that accepted me and told them. They told me to write a letter to admissions committee describing my situation and that they will consider it. I actually want to finish my minor and I'm trying my best to do it.

i suggest that you finish that last class. Don't let the med schools decide your fate again after you were lucky enough to get an acceptance. You DON'T want to tell them that after you got your acceptance, you think double majoring is pointless. No matter how you try to word it, it's going to make you sound lazy. Just finish ONE class. Hey, I'm trying to finish FOUR!! (one is better than four). Congrats on your acceptance.
