Hey,

After speaking to my adviser on Monday ive been thinking all week about what i should do. So, here it goes.

I am currently beginning my second year in college, however i have 65 credit hours (sGPA 3.89 GPA 3.73), making me a junior. my estimated graduation date is Spring of 2010. this is my problem, should i finish college early and apply to dschool this summer, or should i wait another year and take my time to build up my Extra curricular. I plan on taking the DAT in July regardless of my decision. I just wanted to kno if dental schools like to see that u did 4 full years in college or that this might be detremental to my chances of getting in. currently Extra C. look like this. 300+ hours at H. lee Moffitt cancer center, I was honored for piloting a new service, which is now extremely succesfull. I am on the executive board of a on campus organization, I am part of predental society, i hold an executive but not a director position in the organization. i just began my dental shadowing (and loving it), im doin research with anthrax for my orgo teacher. I was director and coridinator of an off campus orginizations annual event. I am an honors student....other hten that idont have anything else.....What should i focus on? what do schools really look for? what else should i do....i just started the research and th predental society adn tthe shadowing.....I REALLY WANT TO GET INTO UF. however, i dont really care...i just wanna get in somewhere......WHAT SHOULD I DO????????😱

If you finish your degree fully, I don't think it matters whether you did it in 3 or 4 years, they're not looking for calendar time rather course completion. So if you finish your whole degree in 3 years, why not save a year of tuition and work on your other stuff that you listed? You sound very involved, which is always good and if you do well on your DAT your chances look amazing. You could also take some time to do some fun/interesting (not saying the stuff you do now is boring) stuff as ECs so that the adcoms know that you're not an academic drone and that you have interests outside of padding your resume with committees and research.

apply this summer! if you pull of a 20+ DAT and keep the same GPA you will be golden. I was in the same situation as you last year and I regret not applying. I instead listened to my advisor and waited. Since I have graduated and now work as a dental assistant and research technician. If I were you I would take my chances and apply next year pending a solid DAT. It sucks really bad to be a sitting duck.

thx guys i really appreciate it. I played intermurel soccer and football, ive held a job for a complete semester my freshman year.....thanks again for the advice....ive just been really nervous about this....i just dont kno what to do...i think im gonna stick to my original plan and finish in 3 years and TRY to get into dschool...should i call the adcoms for UF and ask them wat they like to see....should i keep bothering them to the point that they kno me by name?.....because i would do ANYHTING TO GET INTO UF..thanks again
