In spring, I will be taking microbiology and biochem. Any tips or recommendations to study for over break? Should I read textbook ahead? I have an understanding of amino acids already from cell bio.

You don't need to study ahead at all, you will be fine. For both the classes it's all memorization. You should read the chapters/ slides before the lectures in class so you know to expect.
