I have the 2006 book, but some students told me that I should get the 2007 book instead.

Any thoughts?

I think that a lot of students are asking this question...some even wondering if the 04, or 05 one is still good enough. IMHO I dont think there is anything magical in 07 that isnt in the 06 edition --you can even point to areas that were changed in the 07 ed. that arent as good or obviously wrong all together. The drastic change was from the 05 to 06 when they went to a systems based format. If you've already become familiar with your 06 FA, meaning adding your own notes, etc I dont see any reason to change. Make sure you update all the known errors ( I think there is a thread here somewhere, do a search OR go to the FA06 page on Amazon.com and I think a reviewer has linked or copied the corrections). If it is really bugging you that much that you dont have the 07 ed, save your money and look for the FA 07 .pdf online -its out there. 😉 Good luck.

TrapperJohnMD, are you an older student or just have a fondness for older TV shows?

Thanx for the input.

The thing is, my 2006 book is in MINT condition. Haven't even opened it yet.

I used the 2006 version and it was fine.

Haha, fair question. Actually I am a little older than your average 2nd year, but at 26 I'm def. not the oldest in my class. I loved the original MASH movie and the TV series, plus my first name is John. I've never actually seen the old trapper john shows elliott gould was in during the 80's.

wait for the 2008 ed. to come out in a few months

Yeah, then you can tell your classmates how they all need to get the 08 edition...they'll become paranoid and post on here asking for advice. Payback's a biiitch.

Honestly though, I think you're fine with 06 or 07, both have errata out there and people have done very well with both. the 08 might not have a complete list of errors and corrections by the time you really start getting into board review (i'm assuming after christmas), but you should still be fine --in fact it might reinforce your concepts by picking out the errors yourself. Also, price wise you are going to be paying more ~$50 total if you wait for the 08 ed. Just a thought.

I actually looked at the new edition ('07) and then recommended the 2005 edition to my friend who is collecting resources to write it next summer. I don't like how it's all system based now. It was better as a resource when it was subject based IMO.

But yeah, there's no real difference between each edition. Nothing to waste another $50 on anyway.

I wouldn't bother getting a newer FA. You could probably get away with using a FA as old as 2002 or even earlier (Goljan's audio is from '02 and everyone swears by it).

The errata's never change. If you're dilligent enough, you'll be reading and annotating the crap out of it anyhow. You should be able to pick up all of the mistakes (largely grammatical) on your own.
