Hi all, I have my Step 2CS exam upcoming up and I was thinking of using First Aid for Step 2 CS.

For those of you who have taken the exam recently and studied using First Aid, is the 3rd edition sufficient or is it worth getting the 4th edition?

Many thanks for your advice!

If you get it at all, I would get the 4th edition since CS changed and the newest edition reflects that change. You really only need to read the beginning of the book to get the basics-- if you're willing to just hang out in a book store or a library that has it to study for a few days, you could probably get away with not buying it at all!

the 4th edition probably has a few extra pointers here and there but I took the test in august (got my score today and passed!) and used the free copy of the 3rd edition I got. it was completely fine. the point of first aid is really just to get a sense for what the day will be like, what they look for, some sample "challenge" questions and then some cases to go over -- those things didn't really change. I think if you read online about the changes they've made (to be honest, I don't really know what they are other than that the patients no longer use lists to assess your history), the 3rd edition will be sufficient. the key is again, prepare for what the day will be like, then practice at least a few of the cases and challenge questions.

Save your money and just go with the 3rd edition. The 4th edition is not up to date with the most recent CS format. The 4th edition has 3 extra cases but otherwise is a complete replica of the third edition. What a clever way to make money by Tao Le, et al.
