has anyone found this text helpful for rotations?

Nope. Just another waste of money catered to the anxiety-ridden new M3 who hasn't quite made it past the culture shock that is transitioning to clinical medicine in July.

Yeah don't buy this thing retail if at all. I got mine secondhand from a friend and thought it was an OK intro for the first couple of days of a rotation. I'd glance through and hit the high points the Sunday before orientation. After that though I'd switch to a better text, like Step-Up to Medicine or OB Blueprints.

I think it's helpful as an outline of some of the major topics you should be familiar with after you complete a rotation. I also like the sections where they tell you what to put in your pockets, and there are some helpful mnemonics and clinical pearls. But you should not expect to be able to use this book as your primary source for any rotation, especially if your school gives shelf exams.

I'm actually in the process of writing a review of this book for SDN; I'll post here when I get it finished.

I found it somewhat helpful to read prior to in-patient rotations (ob-gyn, surgery, medicine, peds, maybe neuro) for giving me a good idea of what to expect, which made me a little less nervous. I would definitely not buy it new, though, and you probably don't need to get the most current edition.
