Thought I would update everyone how my first day went. I didn't really do any proper Tech Work, I just went to class at one store and did like 3-4 hours of modules at my home store. I'm not going to lie, I had to rush through them to get done on time and my scores could have been higher. I still have another day of modules to complete tomorrow in addition to register training, followed by my Phase I Pharmacy Class this Friday and my Phase I On the Job Training the Sunday after that, then two more shifts of modules after that. I just hope I retain some of all of this, I feel like it is a lot at once. I'd feel a lot better if I could do them in my dorm but they have to be completed in the store. I suppose the bright side is I am getting paid for them (About 6 hours total today).

If anyone has advice or help about the workflow or responsibilities or anything in general I would be very appreciative.

and now I have homework to do... :help:

Best of luck. You are on the right track. Being a three letter tech/intern beats almost everything else as far as job resume is concerned, for retail at least. That's how my cousin got his job right out of school when he graduated several months ago.

Thank you for the kind words!

To be honest, I think you've made a huge mistake.

You wouldve gotten so much more out of learning pharmacy management from the owner of the indy

Any braindead person can learn the workflow at CVS, and networking in a newgrad-meatgrinder is worthless.

Well this thread is fun. My advice is to get ahead and stay ahead. Problems are so much easier to deal with in retail if you're ahead of the game in your workflow. That goes for QT and QP. Those auto-fills that are due at 1000pm? They're not gonna disappear if you ignore them. Also, the most important thing in those classes is the inventory and the insurance stuff. A tech that can manage those two areas is a pharmacist's best friend.

Easy, there. If I had my 'druthers I would still be at the Indy. I have to go to school, though, and I am 2.5 hours away from there. I technically still work at the Indy, just during the summers and breaks. I already know a little bit about management, and I intend to intern at the same Indy during Pharmacy School to learn more. The way I look at it, getting some experience at a chain (CVS) couldn't hurt. I appreciate the input, however.

Thank you for the advice! I will try to make a point to study the inventory and insurance parts of the job. RxConnect seems a bit more user friendly than the last system I used at the Indy.

Right on, homie

When did the SDN pharmacy forums devolve into lame blog posts by pharmacy students?

Maybe SDN needs to start a blog forum, for anyone so inclined to post their day to day happenings. People interested in this, can easily find their threads. People not interested, can easily ignore the forum.
