So I ended up scoring
23 bio, 24 OC, 25 GC, 22 PAT, and 18 RC
1) how the heck do I get my reading better? I read 3 scientific American articles per day but cannot do well in reading!! I've always been super bad at reading and want to get this score up so it doesn't bring down my AA. I scored 20s in tests 6-10 but this blindsided me. I don't know how I can't read a damn paragraph then answer questions with the information right in front of me!!
2) where did my QR score go?? Does it not grade it or what?? It isn't showing up in my saved results tab..

Looks like your science foundation is really strong right now. Were your RC issues on search and destroy type questions or more inference based ones? How is your reading speed?

Everything is bad with reading. I try the mapping method usually, or I'll find myself reading through 10/12 paragraphs and answering questions based off that. I found myself on paragraph 6 on the first article and didn't know anything I had just read besides the first two paragraphs. I then focused up and thought I did well on the last two and thought I was good but I guess not. My speed might be good but my comprehension is awful. I often have to read the paragraph twice to get a good hold on the information unless I am completely engaged and consumed by the paragraph

Sounds like it's a focus issue - when you're doing your daily reading do you stop every paragraph and check if you've absorbed the information/remember what it just said?

I think I need to start doing that more. I'm overwhelmed by the ticking clock on the DAT and that translates to my practice. I read too fast and skip over words that I, somehow, deem unimportant. What method did you use for the real DAT? I see that you said that SND could've worked, but you kinda just said that you read it?

My reading was low and I purchased the QVault reading and did one every day right before I did my first 5 practice tests on BC. I was getting 17-18 on 6-10 on BC and after I did the QVaults I scored 21-22 on full length 1-5.

Yea, even though S&D would have worked for most of the questions on my test, I always read the entire passage first. I really focus when I read (the Scientific American articles every day helped with that) and I know where the answers I'm looking for will be since I've read it all. Some versions of the test may also be more tone/inference based which makes it even more important to read the whole passage. Take your time with reading to soak up every word, prioritizing thoroughness over speed - you'll eventually get quick and improve your retention.

If you want some extra RC practice, I found Crack DAT RC to be a lot more like the real DAT. Of course every version is different but others have also agreed that Crack DAT RC is a great source of extra practice. Also, cheer up! I got a 17 on my first Bootcamp RC and a 22 on the real thing! You got this! Best wishes... 🙂

How did QVault help?? Harder tests?? Different strategies??

The reading on the real DAT is easier. I think I scored a 16 on the BC test and got a 23 on the real thing. I just prepped my strat and used that. 2 out of the 3 passages the questions were in order of paragraphs. Trust me it isn't too bad.
How'd you go about the strategy on the real thing??

Thank you very much!! I'm hoping that I can bump mine up to a 22 as well. I'll just go search on youtube "How to read gooder" and maybe I can grab a few extra points

I read the first 3-4 paragraphs. Then looked at the questions, and search and destroyed until I couldn't answer anymore so I kept reading. The 1st question was either in the 1st or 2nd paragraph, and each question after that went in order. So I would read the passage whilst doing each question. Meaning I would read a paragraph then answer the question, it was in order for the first two passages.

The 3rd passage I read the whole passage until I got to the 1st question, because the 1st question was in the last paragraph. That was the only passage that did that, but the questions in that passage still had an order, it's just that the 1st question was a bit out or order. The passages are easy to read, and the questions are very basic. Basically I search and destroyed whilst reading if that makes sense. It's really easy.

My strategy going in was just to read a few paragraphs look at the questions and search and destroy, if I couldn't "destroy" anymore I just kept reading. Basically like the BYU method I think.

Yeah! There is no real trick to better RC. It just takes practice! I think your time would better be spent doing ten Crack DAT RC practices as opposed to reading about how to read better. Reading, like any skill, is best improved through practice. Good luck!

So SND still involves reading, correct?? I think this is what I'll try to do. Read a few, answer a few, then repeat. I just need to be better about staying focused.

Tests were a bit easier but it let me hone in on my skills. I feel like likevery question on BC is "Statement A is True" "Statement B is True" "Statement A and B are true", and from what I've read a lot of peoples test can use search and destroy, which you can do a bit easier on qvault.

If you're really feeling crazy, you can do what I call the "take 2" method. It sounds super risky, but if you do it right, it guarantees you at least a 20 and takes time out of the equation so you can focus on getting the right answers. I used it myself and got a 21. Everybody that I have personally talked to about it says that it worked for them, too.
Here it is:
Only read through 2 of the passages. Take your time. Read slowly if you need to. Comprehend everything and don't worry about time. Take notes if you want. Then go through the questions. If you take your time and make sure that you get every question right, then boom! You'll get at least a 20. Then, go through the last section and pick C for every answer (or whatever letter you want.. this just makes sure that you don't leave any answer blank). With the time remaining, go back and use search and destroy to try and correct as many answers as you can for the last section. Any answers you get right beyond the first 2 will only bring your score up from there.
Sounds crazy, I know. But it works. Practice it a few times and if you feel comfortable with it, go for it on the real thing. If not, an 18 isn't too bad and it sounds like you are really practicing hard so you might even do better just because of that.

LOL, I was intently reading before this part got me. Seems stressful, but I can see how it could work
See?? You'd think, right? But it's far less stressful than search and destroy (or any other method that I've heard of). I sweat bullets every time I tried that.
The point is that you only focus on 2 and then your job is basically done. The last one is just to boost your score. It's not for everyone, but I was having similar issues as what they were talking about here so I thought I'd throw it out there.
